wow, you really can't tell the music CCP lay down in their playing style?

Their sound is certainly identifiable if you were a fan of SS and TC.

I hear those same sounds in and around the turn in many places.

there are new sounds they are creating but if know this band, you know they have a sound that your ear will def clue in on.

Every single band with the core musicians have this sound that you know who they are!!!

You seem like a bright chap, but that is yet another discredit to CCP and their core strength.

speak for yourself. I think Gracey's drum patterns are pretty diagnostic (I am a drummer myself, so I tend to pick up on that).

If I hadn't heard anything since Secret Samadhi. I don't think I would have recognized Ed's solo material as Ed.

I agree with Gracey being somewhat distinct. When I hear that horse galloping drum on iris I think there's not any other songs out there which are drummed that way. I think mfitz already said he wasn't comparing old ed to new ed, just that a great deal of fans associate mostly with Ed's voice when they think of Live. But if you were to compare old and new, I bet if you hadn't heard anything after SS, if someone played the Turn for you 18 years later and asked you if you knew the band name, you would not say Live. Shinns voice, having a new singer would throw you off, and CCPs instrumental rock in the mix I bet would not tip you off.

I don't know. I think CCP sound good but if I didn't already know CCP was playing, I might not be able to guess it was them. If I never knew Live broke up and one day someone played me TGF and the Turn, I might not be able to say "hey, this is obviously CCP playing the instruments"

If I didn't listen to anything from any of the members for 18 years, there is no way I would guess Live, with or without Ed - it's just a matter of familiarity.

Like turningstones, I hear a lot of things in The Turn, musically, that hearken back to Secret Samadhi. That album was "my Live," and why The Turn seems more Live to me than anything from TDTH-SFBM.

I think it really comes down to personal preference in music here. mFitz seems like a vocals guy. For myself, I always tuned more to the instrumentation (I mostly listen to post-metal and other instrumental music these days).

I wish people would stop trying to argue what is more identifiable, and what Live is, and just accept that what they really are arguing for is what is identifiable to them.

I may not have identified CCP in The Gracious Few either, but that was a different project, they were going for a different sound. Musicians do side projects all the time which often sound absolutely nothing like the band they are most well known for.

I also really don't like Kevin Martin's vocals, so it would have been hard for me to even consider Live playing as an option.

i'm not saying anything to denigrate CCP's work, it's just common sense that Ed's voice is infinitely more identifiable than CCP's sound.

Chris Shinn is much better that Ed of 2000s and he definitely not even close to Ed of 1990s.

Live made a very good album with Chris which I think is the last one. I do not expect another album with Chris because it flopped big time. It flopped because Live chose a cheap indy approach and decided to release one of the two weak songs off the album as the lead single. I predict that the next Live album (if ever happens) will be with Ed.

TWAIT was the most favorited song on the Poll we had for the album on these forums, I was shocked cause it's not nearly my favorite.

How could Live take a non-indy approach? It's not like anyone can just walk into the Clear Channel and ask them to include your single in the 10-15 songs they play on the radio all day.

I think Ed's return to the band (even if just for a tour) would rely heavily on what Shinn wants. Given how much Shinn means to CCP, I don't think they would ever kick Shinn out for Ed, even if big dollars were waved in their face.

The only way I could see Ed rejoining Live would be if Shinn decided to pursue other projects and there was a good financial opportunity to bring the band back (like Throwing Copper 25 or 30 year anniversary). Even after Ed had to stop calling himself "Ed Kowalczyk of Live" his marketing has heavily revolved around his days with Live (I Alone acoustic tour, TC 20th, TC 20th unplugged). He knows what sells tickets.

One day it won't make financial sense for Ed to tour alone. He will play to smaller and smaller crowds until he won't make real money unless its part of a reunion. If Shinn has left by then, I could see CCP doing a tour with Ed "For the fans."

I base this speculation on a few things:

In 2011 it seemed important for CCP to bring the spirit of Live back. According to their FB page they reached out to Ed but to no avail. That's when they looked for a replacement.

In 2013 Ed said on Rover's Morning Glory his doors were open to a reunion to celebrate Throwing Copper, but the timing wasn't right (he was happy alone and probably realized CCP wanted to do Live without him).

Shinn already seems to be involved in another project outside Live (as is Pat). I can't imagine Chris Shinn wants to be the lead singer of a 90s band forever. I'm sure he loves it but he's 40 and probably wants to try other things too. Live is not the final destination for him.

One day the timing will be there for the return. Ed's solo shows will player to smaller and smaller crowds. Chad will get emotional as he tends to do and will want to give the fans what they want. Ed and CCP may never create an album, they may not even look at each other on stage, but my money says the original Live will play again. Kids need college funds and master bathrooms need renovating. They will need that payday.

With that said, I think Ed sees himself as a solo artist and CCP do not want to make music with Ed. I think Live will have reunion tours, but won't record material together. It will really just be four guys playing together versus getting the band back and all that entails.

That's just my guess.

I very much agree with you for the very same reasons! We WILL get a LIVE/Ed reunion one day because yes, money changes everything. Ed is already playing to crowds that are down to 300 people. These guys have a past friendship going back to their teenage years.--Time heals all wounds. I would even venture to say that they might even make new material together also. There was a come back of 80's hard rock and metal bands touring (starting about 2005 or so) because of the nostalgia factor & fans getting their mid life crisis, wishing for the music of their childhood and all sorts of bands went on tour at that time and are STILL touring. i.e. --Mötley Crüe came back in 2005 after a huge falling out/ band members not getting along along and yea, I'm sure they needed the money too. I remember they were on VH1 in the negotiation stage and the managers talked them into it "for the fans." They didn't even do a new album....just a few new singles tacked on to a greatest hits. LIVE could do the same thing. They could even re-release Throwing Copper with some extra sought after tracks like "Hold Me Up" etc and it could be pretty big. Even if they did a tour with some other 90s bands, OMG it would so work because now it's the 90's kids getting nostalgic, wanting to relive their childhood. thumbsup.gif

who knows about the money. Ed might have money in the bank, CCP have business plural. After CCP bashed Ed's musical direction, it would be interesting to see what kind of setlist they would play or what new music would sound like. "It's time to Believe again!"
