I guess this thread is the only way to get the Churchbox recordings now. I downloaded the Secret app the day after Taylor mentioned it on Twitter, but it hasn't been reposted, so if a kind person could send a link my way, I'd be most grateful.

Thank you!

~Bob

I've listened to it through a few times and I have a few observations:

1) Century is still the earliest example of a terrible Live song to me. I've never liked it, and the Churchbox version is repetitive and atrocious.

2) Cheetah; Chad wrote a guitar part that he didn't have the chops to play accurately. The beginning is brutal. Having once been a hack guitar player but a decent musician, I used to do this all the time, my brain worked better than my hands.

3) the unreleased songs are cool, but I totally see why none of them made the album.

It's fun to have listened to Churchbox, but all it really made me do was want to listen to Secret Samadhi. So I did. I still remember getting the CD a week early from the local shop that cheated on release dates. It's still mind blowing to me (otter than Century). Some of the lyrics are questionable, but that was true of the first two albums also, it's kind of their style. It was just such a darker feeling than TC.

I also recalled the days pre-TDTH when Ed used his falsetto appropriately. I still can't figure out how he thought the way he would later use it was a good idea.

So, unlike a lot of people here, while its cool to have Churchbox now, I don't think it's the most awesome thing ever. SS blows it away. But I'm glad to have both.

The outro to Century redeems itself from the questionable lyrics. It's one of my favorite Live outros.

I'd agree its the better part of the song. Its kind of like when you have to poop really bad, and it won't come out, and then at the end it finally does and its awesome. But in the end, its still just poop.

Ed was off key frequently in the Churchbox version, as well.

I also like the concept that the band would feel "betrayed" by people sharing it now that they let it out.

I really don't think there is any possibility that grown adults said "gee, I am going to make something available on the internet, but only to a few people. I really hope it doesn't get out any further than that".

If that is how they thought it was going to go down, they are completely ignorant. Once you put something out there in this day and age, you are giving it up, if anyone is interested in it they'll have it.

If they were at all concerned about that happening, they wouldn't have done a free release for some people unless they are stupid, which doesn't seem likely.

Because they're demos, and Ed isn't as perfect as some folks make him out to be. They probably did those demos live, in a few takes, unlike studio sessions for an album where a vocalist can give dozens of versions of parts of a song.

Yup, that's correct. May have been a single take.

That's what everyone with at least half a brain has been saying.

Even if sharing Churchbox would prevent future unreleased material from being dusted by Chad, it's still worth sharing because it's better to give Churchbox to all the requesting fans, instead of only letting a few random fans experiencing Churchbox, and only letting a few other random fans get whatever else gets released in the future.

I'd love a PMed link too if anybody could.

I'll never be able to get them even if they Dust them again as I do not have the correct software to install that app.
