Releasing old Live music that Ed helped wrote without Ed is like CCCP throwing in the towel on penning their own stuff.

Now if the original four wanted to re-record those tracks, that would be pretty awesome.

They didn't "release" it. A few die hards got it, but it's not like you can find it on iTunes. You make it sound like they are selling re-recorded Throwing Copper tracks. Let it go, CCP clearly did it as a teaser, nothing more.

They are still clean studio recordings, not a demo in the vain of throwing a mic down in the center of the room.

The tracks may not have been produced (i.e., the levels of various instruments/tracks tweaked) and with other product elements (not instrumental sounds) but the recording is clean. There likely does not exist a better version, the same cannot be said about the other tracks in the list.

they are clean sounding demos but i don't know how you can figure the likelihood of a better studio version. if it exists why not hear it?

a band can simultaneously release old material and pen new material....obviously

Ed re-recording SS era tracks would blow ass IMO because i think Ed's voice is crap now compared to 1997 and he'll never embody his 90's music again.

If a band puts music out there, they released it in a sense.

But those are demos.

pretty sure these are fully mastered tracks. Here is the proof:

SECRET SAMADHI, 1996 (San Francisco, CA, Los Angeles, CA & New York, NY) age, 26yrs.
MEDIA FORMAT: 2” MASTER, PRO-TOOLS, ½” MASTER, DAT

This album was a cluster-fuck to record. We started in San Francisco, CA only to find that the studio had a buzz sound that transferred to every channel of the console and tape machine. We searched high and low to find a studio nearby but had to settle on LA. After moving tons of vintage recording gear and instruments to Los Angeles, Ed had a terrible allergic reaction to the house dog that lived in the studio. We fired Jay (as we had already spent several hundred thousand dollars and didn’t have a note recorded) and headed home to regroup. The entire band was depressed – it was truly our first major failure and we would have to struggle to gather ourselves and continue. After a short break, Jay called Ed and I pushing to use The Hit Factory in NYC, a well-known buzz and pet free studio. We could start in a week if we agreed to put him back on board as producer. We added a 40-piece orchestra to Lakin’s Juice and Turn My Head and once again tracked the band without click tracks live in a large room. The only overdubs were vocal doubles (very few harmonies), guitar solos (although GasHed and Graze were cut live) and the string sections. We wanted a raw record and got it (funny that it is our rawest recording that also got called over-produced). This is my all-time favorite Live album and the one I felt most represented my sonic vision of the band. When I listen to this album I am driven to tears. I can feel us let go and flow musically like at no other point in our career. I can’t imagine how much better it would have been if we would have not had the stops and stats associated with San Fran and LA. Tom Lord-Alge would once again add the finishing touches. Mall Rat & Photograph are finished masters. Pop Vortex would come from the Shadow Hill sessions and “Crayons” was an early lyric to Century; “come on, come on, return to crayons.”

what i have in mp3 format certainly sound totally finished. And they're that damn good too.

nice find. I recall Chad saying Churchbox sessions did not make it onto the album, which makes me wonder if there's another studio produced/finished version of mallrat and photograph that were from the sessions that made the cut.

CCP gave these away, I see no reason they'd give something other than the best they had. I've never heard of there being rights to a produced track but there not be rights to the exact same albeit unproduced studio track.

Chad's opinion was that Churchbox was better than whatever sessions made it onto the album, but I'd still take as many versions of as many Live songs as I can get a hold of!

+1 on the share.

PM a link to only the cool people so the trolls don't get it. They aren't Live fans anyway.

If someone has the churchbox sessions, they would have been uploaded already!

First off, i do not care if u have them or not. My life will continue with or without hearing these songs. Don't beg this guy, that's what he wants. If i owned this i would rip these tracks in FLAC (if it is cd format) and share them with FanOfLive in a heartbeat. If you possess this, upload it for everyone to enjoy and stop playing games. My life continues either way, have a nice day.
