No, the avatar doesn't bother me, just commenting on what seems like a contradiction, is all.
I'm already aware of all of my forum settings, features, and what-not, thank you kindly. smile.gif

I understand. You're welcome. Keep in mind I created this avatar during the height of the Ed v. CCP fiasco. The band has since moved on without him and coincidentally so have I.

Let's see, they are trying to move forward as a band with a new singer, what are the odds that they will release material featuring their old singer that they hate and that they thought weren't good enough to make it into albums previously.

I'm going to say, not likely.

OK you caught me. It wasn't a coincidence.

Over 10 years of frustration over the type of music Live was producing with Ed was completely washed away with the release of the The Turn.

What I hope for is the new music reaches the fringe and casual fans who long abandoned Live altogether and their passion for their original music when they heard the likes of V and SFBM.

I understand, as I am a frustrated +LIVE+ fan as well. I am frustrated of those that can say that Chris Shinn is the cat's meow. I'm not blind or deaf, so I'm like, "What the hell!?" huh.gif
I am also honest to admit I'm envious of other fans' satisfaction with CS, because I too, would like to move on and be excited. The Turn is... okay. I'm trying, listening repeatedly and just continuing to hope for better.

I have to admit he is not the "cat's meow" as you put it. While the sequel is rarely better than the original, I find Chris Shinn as a more than adequate replacement to Ed.

It was difficult at first trying to accept the fact Ed was not singing this new music. It actually took me quite a few complete listens to The Turn before I opened up to the new voice because I think I was trying to hear the music through for Ed's (original, not SFBM version or post Live solo version) both consciously and subconsciously.

The bottom line for me is Live is about the band as a whole and I can finally hear the passion and love for the music coming from the 3 members of Live not named Ed. That alone makes me satisfied with this new album.

I'm assuming the original poster is insinuating they release Hold Me Up and other rarities covered by Shinn?

No, not what i meant at all.

Who actually owns the track? I thought Live did. If Live does, why can't they just release it without Edward's consent?

Kevin Smith went into my cousins pizza joint during a film festival in town and I missed him by 5 minutes. He was the only customer at the moment just hanging out, left my cousin a $20 tip. If I met him you know I was going to make a plea to get a copy of Hold Me Up.

I think the most likely time we could have gotten "Hold Me Up" would have been if Radioactive Records, or whoever holds the rights to the Throwing Copper session recordings had put it out on a 15th Anniversary Edition back in 2009 or this year as a 20th Anniversary release.

In an ideal world, they would have released a 3-disc edition with the album, a second disc with b-sides and a 3rd disc of a well mixed concert from that era.

I guess there's always another chance on the 25th Anniversary...... sarcasm.gif

Don't we have Mallrat and Photograph already? They seem pretty clean to me, maybe not 100% album mastered/produced but the recording is a clean studio recording.

I don't think Chris is the "Cat's Meow", but it clicked for me when I realized that he was better sounding Live lead singer, and can do better covers (if one wants to call it that) of Throwing Copper era songs in 2014 than 2014-Ed can. He sounds more true to the original. Ed sounds more like the cover act. It's bizzare.

I think they did choose someone that had vocal characteristics similar to Ed, and I do think they produced the album with some continuity in mind, rather than just go all out of someone dramatically different. This isn't a bad thing, although some would surely try to spin it as such.

Releasing old Live music that Ed helped wrote without Ed is like CCCP throwing in the towel on penning their own stuff.

Now if the original four wanted to re-record those tracks, that would be pretty awesome.

They are still clean studio recordings, not a demo in the vain of throwing a mic down in the center of the room.

The tracks may not have been produced (i.e., the levels of various instruments/tracks tweaked) and with other product elements (not instrumental sounds) but the recording is clean. There likely does not exist a better version, the same cannot be said about the other tracks in the list.
