QUOTE(Bremang @ Oct 29 2014, 1:44 am) *

start i alone...
"it's easier not to be great, and measure these things by your brain"

c'mon man. the casual Live fan knows at least those lyrics to I alone no.gif

He's got a voice, but the old Live songs are just not for Chris. I watch Chad own the lakini's juice riff, because he owns it. But then Chris is a visitor on the mic. He has no idea what he's singing about

The new songs seem to be closer to him. I am glad to watch him put himself out there.

That is the main grip I have on him. He does a bit too much of these small mistakes. He should spend a bit more time making sure he knows them by heart, and that he knows more deep songs in the catalog. ....but it is not I alone that he misses normally. Anyway, this is very minor for me because he gives everything on stage. + the album is great.

On We open the door, you couldn't hear him sing the second, more intense half of the song cause he didn't sing into the mic....someone needs to talk to him, he's gotta win these opportunities to rock!

CG started drumming just as Chris was trying to say something emotional to the fans, c'mon... no.gif

What's with Chad T coming out before Pat on the encore and then making pee jokes? Come back on stage at the same time like a normal band, guys.

One thing you could always count on in the past was that Live was air tight on stage. Professionals. No screw ups. Very critical but these are Live standards here!

To start off - I don't dislike Chris on the album but I don't love him either. I actually love Siren's Call and like a few of the new songs. I hope they release another album in the future. I really love some of the lyrics, base lines, riffs, and beats.

Now to my issue - After watching this stream of the band performing live I'd have to say that I'm just not a fan of Chris on stage - period. It's not because he's singing for Live. I would feel the same way if he were singing for any band on the scene. To me he is just not a professional front man.

The mic is his most important instrument and he has no idea how to use it. I simply cannot stand how he pulls back from it, or turns his head, or sings lyrics to far away so you cannot hear him. A lot of the time, when he does this, it is during a key part or powerful part of the song. It's so annoying it makes watching him perform unbearable. It is such a bad habit I like his sound coming out of the studio but I have no idea how he made any type of name for himself in the music industry with his stage act.

When I was watching the stream today I just kept thinking that if Simon Cowell were watching this and giving feedback he'd say facepalm.gif "What the fuck are you doing? That's horrible, you need to actually sing into the mic." I'm not a fan of Simon, nor did I really watch American Idol. I just couldn't help that reoccurring thought I had over and over again.

Although I love the band and some of the music I honestly don't see myself attending a Live concert with Chris as the front man because this would drive me so insane it would ruin the experience. It's not a knock on Live and the album they put out. When it comes to shows I'd rather see them on stage again as The Gracious Few with Kevin because he was awesome front man in concert.

And THIS is why he shouldn't be singing for live.

Great post btw. He just seems so out of it.

.

Fair enough....how to give a point of view without trolling. I sort of come through that mic issue, because it bogged me at first. Lack of confidence or whatever the reason, he should do it less in some key parts. But he compensates being passionate and raw on so many other occasions. But I understand totally someone not going over it.

Chris and co destroyed it last night. So much energy on stage. Shinn is such a huge talent and fits right in. I just wished they wouldve played a few more new songs. looking forward to seeing them. rockin.gif

AMEN! This made me laugh because I once said that I must be the Simon Cowell (female version) on this board because I get so worked up over Chris Shinn's inadequacies as a frontman
and feel like I'm the only one saying anything and am looked at as an asshole like Simon. I can't stand to see the constant ass kissing CS gets in here, it makes no sense and is sickening! CCP could have considered SO many superior singers with some actual stage presence. I HAVE seen better frontmen and vocalists on American Idol. Who remembers that Magni guy on Rock Star Supernova!? He covered Dolphins Cry on there one time and did an awesome job. I'd take Magni over Shinn any day of the week.

I can't say it as eloquently as Hoodstock, but he is so right. And I am convinced CS knows he is inferior, which is why he uses a megaphone waaaay too much.-- He tries to cover up the fact that he sucks balls. If you are going to replace your lead singer, you had better get a replacement that is equal or near better than your original. The bands that have worked have done just that--Van Halen w/ Sammy, Journey with Arnell etc. Otherwise, you are DOOMED.

There's more to a frontman than somebody who can just perform well on stage.
Can your replacement vocalist write songs?
Will the replacement vocalist fit into the existing band? (personality, goals)

I was at the show and the stream doesn't do it justice. Keep in mind, when you're at a Live show it's fucking loud and you're signing along to the songs too, so at least for me what I hear most was the music and the music rocked. Chris was much better than when I saw him at Summerland 2013. His confidence in the old material is growing and in person he was not a distraction. Tonally he's right there with the band and in person I didn't notice the little mistakes because I'm so deep into the music. When I watched the stream today I was shaking my head because this was nothing like experience I had in person. Maybe Chris doesn't sound great on recorded versions of the old stuff, but if you get a chance to see CCCP live please do. He feels the music.

Right now I'd say if Chris Shinn was the quarterback of Live he's a lot like Alex Smith. He holds down the fort and lets the rest of the team do their thing to perfection.

Granted, I never saw Live with Ed as I didn't become a fan of the band until 2008, but as of today I've seen CCCP twice and Ed three times, and this was probably the most enjoyable show I've been to of the five.

I'm confident Chris will only get better.

Why does Chris change the lyrics of Sirens to 'take my hand I can't my darling' in stead of 'save myself I cant my darling'? Unless I'm mishearing the album version? Noticed it on the acoustic performance that was linked here as well

Agreed! What's a bit frustrating to me is that he is constantly fumbling the lyrics with the older stuff. The songs sound like they are sung from someone in a cover band. If Chris supposedly joined the band in 2012, then why is he still messing up?

cause artists do that sometimes and have more than one set of lyrics for their songs.

I'm convinced that Chad Taylor has always wanted to be the frontman of Live. For Ed's replacement, talent was secondary to hiring someone that would easily fade into the background.
