Overall, first listen - I like the album, very happy it was released. Hoping they put out another record soon! Some more humble opinions - HCTTDT is underrated, Rogerton is overrated (cheesy backstory/chorus sounds like Nickleback.) TYCA - this isn't a blind melon record! Jerry Harrison did a great job giving Chris a more amped-up shredding voice instead of that soft emo thing Chris used to do in his other band. Some potential with him, I hope he doesn't get settled. I'd like to see him not turn his head away from the microphone, and get some stage presence. I'm hoping he gets inspired, gets even more groovy and starts going buck wild like Ed used to do...maybe get him some drugs, take away all his money, send him to the far east, and put him on a crossfit regimen or something.

Lol! smile.gif Nice post, man! I'm in total agreement of CS's weaknesses!! thumbsup.gif

If you actually do know the backstory to this song, and still think it is cheesy, that is pretty awful.

well, maybe not cheesy...I guess I just don't like the song that much. But we'll see, it may grow on me

By the way, did anyone else notice Amazon's description of The Turn.. "9th studio album".. ?

I think they counted Paradiso including 2 new songs as well. Or maybe just a mistake, dunno.

Maybe they counted TGF. Basically it was the first post Ed album by Live (CCP). They just chose to release it under a different name.

I am stating that Shinn's subpar vocals are ONE reason that The Turn is a 5/10 album for me. Giving The Turn five outta ten and rating this album higher than TDTH is a pretty damn good and FAIR rating, therefore not redundant and not a waste of time. What IS reduntant is the double standard in here of constant Ed bashing.

Fair enough! I don't like Ed's music and the music he made in 2000s as Live. Perhaps the music is good for what it is, i like a few songs off V, BoP and SFBM but they have nothing to do with Live. The Turn is Live because it has specific features whcih i understand as being unique to Live, namely distinct sound, heavy and melodic songs.

Yeah Cory, if this Voodoo Lady chick thinks the backstory to Rodgerton is cheesy, she is one insensitive b*tch. I am hoping she has no idea what she is talking about, for her sake. Wow.

Does anyone read a message board in sequence? Bremang said, it was cheesy and in his next post qualified it. And even if, can we just discuss it, without already figuring out what kind of person someone is?
I know, there is a lot of emotion here, but people if you want another fallout, just don't respect opinions and don't read what anyone actually say ...

Yeah, I am not very comfortable in rating an album that early. My opinion on single songs change very fast. But I can try.
Overall I really really like it without having to find excuses for myself liking it.
If I have to rate the songs, this would be it right now.

Siren's Call 7/10
I already wrote some stuff about this song, I like how the lyrics correspond to the music. The chorus reminds me somehow of The Dolphin's Cry, and that actually bugs me.

Don't Run To Wait 9/10
This' song live version quickly got stuck in my head, with it's raw power and the melodic parts in quick change. Very dynamic! I really hoped they wouldn't fuck it up in the studio.
After I heard this song in my low powered car system I thanked any power there is, that I can enjoy it. It's pace seems slower, but I am ok with that. Here again Shinn sings like he means it, and this is apparent on the whole album.

Natural Born Killers 9/10
A grower for me. I am really not a fan of that kind of chorus and I still don't have any idea why, but it works in this song. Maybe because the message is dark to the point it could be wrong. I even like the verses, because Shinn's sings them not just sweet, but like he is a little sociopathic. Not to really compare it to Jack Nicholson in Shining, but same direction.
Sometimes I see the romantic aspect of two lovers breaking free from the abusive husband, sometimes I just hear the second voice in the head of the girl, who seems become something every human being could become, if it is in pure danger. A natural born killer.
Sometimes I just hear two serial killers showing each other their real purpose just making excuses to kill.
This diversity in interpretation is what I love. And that it is just stuck in my head.

Rodgerton 8/10
This is just pure testosteron. This music resonates with your down parts.
I once had to write a short script for the first scene of "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Badbury in english class. When I wrote it I had "Don't Wait" in mind, which is a beast and is one of the wildest songs by Live.
Rodgerton will not replace this for me, it's a bit too tame for that, but you can feel the flames here too. And the structure of the song mirrors the dynamics of the emotions, the protagonists goes through as he realizes, what he's lost and later what he's still got. Very solid!

By Design 8/10
This is very fresh for me. I like how the guitars sound very organic in a way. Like something is growing. Like the perfect compromise of organic growth and building something by design.

The Way Around Is Through 5/10
The weakest song of the album. It doesn't resonate that much with me and has this safe sound. There are parts I like, the last Taylor solo especially. It sounds better in the flow of the album and I wouldn't skip it, because it plays it's part.

Need Tonight 7/10
Very moody and it's building itself nicely. Need more time with it.

The Strength to Hold On 8/10
This is guitar work I have never thought a Live song would offer. I really love, how they integrated it into their own sound. But to say more I need more time with it aswell.

We Open the Door 7/10
Like many said, this song is very Live-ish with it's spiritual musical parts but I somehow feel that it could have been more, that the potential is not fully used. It hasn't grown on me since I first heard it, but back then I liked it, so all good.

He Could Teach the Devil Tricks 7/10
Heard it once or twice and I know this song will grow on me. But right now I don't have more to say about it.

Till You Came Around 7/10
Still too fresh for me, but this one will grow aswell. Nice song!

Overall I don't like some production decisions they made, sometimes it's too clean, sometimes it sounds too good, sometimes the animal in the songs isn't free enough. But having to take similar decisions on an own album lately and being totally amateurish in it, I understand the decisions and respect them. Actually if I listen to the album back to back without caring, I quickly get used to it and just rock out. So all good.

Thankyou! I rarely ask of poeple to express their opinion of they don't do it themselves. However, based on your posts so far, i highly value your input - you should post more.

Hey, thanks! I would post more often, but I am too lazy most of the time and don't have something useful to say anyway. I am more of a reader ... But although I love more bands than +Live+, the boys still have the biggest place in my heart. They just give me what I need. Again smile.gif
