BOP was much more well received than their previous album, V. I've listened to BOP just as much as the other great albums and absolutely love that album.

The 2 worst albums by far are V and SFBM. V was too experimental and failed miserably, so they went back to their roots for BOP, maybe played it a bit safe, but released some amazing classic memorable Live tunes on that record. Heaven should not have been the first track on the album nor the first single, although it got pretty heavy airplay on Hot AC radio for a while.

I think that's when it became obvious that CCP and Ed wanted to go in completely different directions. Presumably CCP wanted to get back to heavier rock and Ed wanted slower creative haunting melodic rock. They couldn't come to a consensus on the sound of SFBM, so CCP said screw it, go ahead and do this yourself, and Ed went into solitude somewhere in Black Mountain and put together this album himself with zero contributions from CCP. The lackluster effort resulted in a rift between the band that never recovered.

If you look on Amazon, all LIve albums get 4 1/2 stars according to customer reviews, except V and SFBM which both get 3 1/2 stars. I think that's the general consensus among most fans. I'm glad Ed went his own way. He's not feeling the pressure of taking on a band that doesn't match his style or vocals anymore. He still has an incredible voice but it wouldn't suit well on The Turn. Hopefully enough people will keep supporting both parties, and maybe one day we'll get a World Tour with Live featuring special guest Ed Kowalczyk or vice versa. lol.gif Wouldn't that be an interesting tour?

By the way, did anyone else notice Amazon's description of The Turn.. "9th studio album".. ?

Yes, i really think Chris is a killer frontman. It's no 'rock legend' like Ozzy Osbourne, i know, that's the truth.

But he really is a powerfull frontman with a very powerfull voice, and he has made some killersongs with CCP. It's a very solid album that proves Chris is the perfect man for the band.

Mike Patton is a KILLER FRONTMAN.
Ozzy Osbourne is a KILLER FRONTMAN.
Steven Tyler is a KILLER FRONTMAN.

And don't even get me started on the difference between frontmen vs. greatest vocalists of all time, because Steven Tyler and Mike Patton (in example) would fall into both categories, Ozzy would not (due to his lack of range). Chris Shinn is an average to below average frontman and vocalist, admit it!!!!

With that being said, after my first listen, I give this album a 5 out of 10. Later on, maybe I'll give it a 6 out of 10 (I need to listen to it some more). My baseline for my rating is TDTH being a 4 out of 10.

I agree with the majority that Rogerton is the best track.

Steven Taylor? Ok

Ozzy Osbourne killer frontmant??? He performed all of his songs with flat vocals, no variation in tone.

Mike Patton? I am sorry but i do not hear the killer frontman here.

Bruce Dickinson and Dio yes.

I don't think that there is consensus that BoP deserves 4.5/5. It has some two great songs (Like I Do and Lighthouse), 2 very good songs (She and Rivertown), a few ok songs and a couple of crappy songs (Bring the people Together and Every time I see your face). It was not consistent - there were songs which did not fit with other songs. On these grounds it was on a par with TDTH but TDTH had better songs overall and not a single bad song. BoP was just an attempt (a failed one) to return to the form. However, it was too Ed to achieve the desired return.

Again, I think it's just a matter of taste because I think Every Time I See Your Face is a phenominal song. I know it sound pop, but I don't mind that. To me, it's one of their best. Sweet Release is another killer song imo. I can listen to that album from start to finish and still not get bored of it.

A phenomenal song? Ok, I have no words. Even if it is a good song on its own, it has nothing to do with Live.

It's on my phone so I'm listening to it now.. and yes it's phenominal. The song flows effortlessly. It has a feel-good vibe to it. The melody is a standout. And the song actually goes somewhere instead of falling flat. At about 2:30 it builds into a nice crescendo. The vocals in this track are great too. It's a song I never get bored of.

Dave Grohl commented on Live? Interesting. I'm interested to hear what other bands thought of Live's direction over the years.

Yes, this is what he said to CT at one point some years ago. It was documented somewhere.

This is the album I've waited 15 years for. It's impressive and refreshing.

I am glad you enjoy the song. I don't. I find it very poppy and generic. But that the beauty of music.

That second edit of the song (extended?) floating around I think was even better

What are you trying to do here, to convince us so that you feel fine for arguing Chris is below average vocalist? I do not care. What I know is that Chris' vocals fit perfectly with the songs. The rest is just redundant discussion and waste of time.

I am stating that Shinn's subpar vocals are ONE reason that The Turn is a 5/10 album for me. Giving The Turn five outta ten and rating this album higher than TDTH is a pretty damn good and FAIR rating, therefore not redundant and not a waste of time. What IS reduntant is the double standard in here of constant Ed bashing.

Fronting a band and vocal abilities are two very different things that people lump together. I said that about Ozzy... His ability as a frontman (stage presence etc) is outstanding, but his vocals are thin/weak.

Mike Patton can sing opera for crying outloud!?

Dio--you got that one!

I appreciate your response even though I say he's average to below average and understand your not a 'rock legend' clarification, which sometimes it seems what ppl are getting at in here.

01. Siren's Call 8/10
02. Don't Run To Wait 6/10
03. Natural Born Killer 6/10
04. 6310 Rogerton Dr 5/10
05. By Design 5/10
06. The Way Around Is Through 6/10
07. Need Tonight 5/10
08. The Strenght To Hold On 5/10
09. We Open The Door 6/10
10. He Could Teach The Devil Tricks 7/10
11. Till You Came Around 5/10

Overall, first listen - I like the album, very happy it was released. Hoping they put out another record soon! Some more humble opinions - HCTTDT is underrated, Rogerton is overrated (cheesy backstory/chorus sounds like Nickleback.) TYCA - this isn't a blind melon record! Jerry Harrison did a great job giving Chris a more amped-up shredding voice instead of that soft emo thing Chris used to do in his other band. Some potential with him, I hope he doesn't get settled. I'd like to see him not turn his head away from the microphone, and get some stage presence. I'm hoping he gets inspired, gets even more groovy and starts going buck wild like Ed used to do...maybe get him some drugs, take away all his money, send him to the far east, and put him on a crossfit regimen or something.
