Just listened, the album sounds little if nothing like Live from any era.

-Not a fan of the extra long intros, fade outs, and jam sessions. Way too many instruments without vocals for long stretches. White Discussion was special because it happened once on the album. These happen on nearly every song and for me it grew tiresome.

DAOC has a long intro. Rattlesnake had a long intro. We know you prefer songs to start with "la da da daaaa" or "oooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" in false like Love Shines. Those are much better ways to start a song.

Maybe you can urge Ed to put out an acapella album since instruments and music get in the way of your masturbation sessions with vocals.

I don't generally like to echo the often repeated things that band themselves say, but if there's ever a time for Kevin Martin's "It's called Rock-n-Roll, look it up" line this is it.

I was wondering if anyone knows what CS says in "he could teach the devil tricks" during the chorus.....he says something like: "never really......????? Anyone know the lyrics, i'm curious.

I only heard it once but I think I remember it was something like
"I never really saw it coming"

Glad to see almost everyone is happy. The songs are growing on me like I thought they would. I don't think it will ever rank higher than MJ, TC, or TDTH, but I am sure I will end up really liking it. Anything is better than SFBM!

But let's get real here - this album won't do anything at radio and will have few copies sold. People are over Live. It's OK, they had a good run, I'll be happy to see them at a small venue and support them anyway.

For me, it ranks higher than MJ already. MJ is ok but very pre-mature sound and vocals. It definitely has some great tunes. TDTH is very good on its own but it is not very Live. It introduced poppy soft rock songs and turned away from the raw, heavy and distinct sound. For me, The Turn may rank higher than TDTH but i need time to decide. I do not think that i will ever consider it better than TC or SS.

I do not care for radio play, sales or charts. I just want good Live music which i have.

Just finished Listening to it all the way through. On first listen I like it alot, here's what i thought:

__ A lot more experimental than i would have thought.

__ It had alot of that +Live+ feeling to it for sure.

__ Chris Shinn has range and he is very passionate, loved the vocals for the most part.

__ This album WILL grow on me, i can tell from first listen.

Here is my "first listen" song by song rating

1. Siren's Call 8/10
2. Don’t Run to Wait 7/10
3. Natural Born Killers 9/10
4. 6310 Rodgerton Dr. 10/10
5. By Design 8/10
6. The Way Around Is Through 7/10
7. Need Tonight 9/10
8. The Strength to Hold On 9/10
9. We Open the Door 8/10
10. He Could Teach the Devil Tricks 7/10
11. Till You Came Around 7/10

Just an early opinion, will probably change i'm sure!
TC

This is the Live I have been waiting for. A new era, with CS putting his own stamp on the band.

Here are my song ratings

1. Siren's Call 9/10
2. Don’t Run to Wait 8/10
3. Natural Born Killers 9/10
4. 6310 Rodgerton Dr. 10/10
5. By Design 9/10
6. The Way Around Is Through 8/10
7. Need Tonight 8/10
8. The Strength to Hold On 8/10
9. We Open the Door 8/10
10. He Could Teach the Devil Tricks 9/10
11. Till You Came Around 8.5/10

I give the album a 9/10. Well worth the wait

I think the album will do okay the first week, either top 50 or top 100 on Billboard.

And that's good. Most of hardcore fans don't care much about sales. Of course we want them to succeed if they have the intention to get back on that floor. But they would have done more shows in the US around the release.

Again, hardcore fans are already very pleased with the record. (I wait the physical copy to listen it all, but think I will break this week-end! smile.gif )

You can buy the album in Germany already. Just listened to it. I like it. It's a solid rock album, but it doesn't sound like LIVE. I probably get slated for this, but I think that Ed's solo efforts are closer to the bands original sound.

Rodgerton and WOTD are my favorites. The guitar riff in By Design is awesome!

I certainly won't regret buying it. But I didn't regret getting The Flood and the Mercy either.

Ed solo albums are on a par with SFBM. They have nothing to do with original Live.

Flood and The Mercy had some of Live's original sound in it IMHO. Alive is similar to SFBM.

I don't see it. While I think FATM is Ed's best work so far, like his other solo work, it is far from what the original sound of LIVE is. Now if you mean post 1999 LIVE, then sure. But it sounds nothing like the first 3 albums, which I would consider the original sound of the band.

I find it even more far away than original Live. If you think original Live is there please let us know where to listen to, otherwise drop the general matching.

I think "Seven" is a song that could have been written prior to 1999. It would have been arranged slightly different and there would probably be more of a distorted sound, but apart from that it sounds pretty old school.

Perhaps we have listened to different songs. Perhaps Ed has another secret "Seven" which he plays only to a few selected fans of his. There is no signle song off the first 3 albums that has any relation with Seven. Even the most poppy songs off TDTH have more substance.
