The majority of fans on here and White Discussion have some sort of bias for or against.

True. But not as biased as you are!

It's an amazing album, one of the best i've heard in a while, and the best Live album i've heard since 'The Distance to Here'

I'm not very good in reviewing, but this album really has the 'Spirit of Live'.
Some songs are a bit influenced by EIE and Unified Theory, but it's in a positive way.

I can't wait to have the physical copy in my hands.

Rogerton is an outstandig song and probably the best song on the album, but i can't name one single bad song on the whole album.

Thankyou Live, this made my day, and probably my year banana.gif

I will probably cry when i'm going to see them for the first time in Amsterdam lol.gif

very very solid, rodgerton, need tonight, strength to hold on are great songs (cant remember which one but one of the last two feel like something you'd get from "the verve".
it is a very fresh sounding album.
Not as rock as i'd hoped but still very good music

Maybe it's too early too say: This album is a true masterpiece.
But if i should rank it now:

1. TC
2. SS
3. The Turn
4. TGF
5. TDTH

The time will show if this album is still in my top 3 fav albums in the future.

Agreed with the position of the The Turn. My rank, though it is very early, is:

1. SS
2. TC
3. The Turn
4. TDTH
5. MJ
I do not rank the rest because I refuse to classify them as Live. I need to listen to The Turn many many times in order to decide if beats TDTH or not.

I just listened a couple times, and I'm pleased. It's a solid comeback.

For those of you who said that it is "experimental," and "had too many instrumental jam sessions" - did we listen to the same album?

Contrary to what our buddy Nick says I honestly think this is "more Live" than most of their albums. Mental Jewelry was a solid early album, but they didn't really find their sound until Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi. After that, it was a slow transition into Ed Kowalczyk and the backup band. TDTH has some great songs, but I don't enjoy it as an album. It's too Ed, and not enough band.

I don't think this is a great album, but its a good one, and one that I am happy to sit alongside MJ, TC & SS. There are a couple tracks I could live without (that closing track isn't so good), but I'll take this as a decent Live record!

I agree with the above. Though I only listed once through, I would have to say that I can generally categorize this as a decent album. There are some tracks I don't particularly care for, but after looking at the running order, the tracks I like the most are the ones that the guys haven't played live or pushed out through PledgeMusic. The ending track reminds me of 'Horse' from TC, funny enough. To me, good album...but could have been better. For all those going to the show tonight (I think?), have fun!

I don't think it sounds at all like Live. If I listened to this without knowing who it was, there's no way I would say it sounds like Live from any era.

So far, I like what I'm hearing. It's actually better than I thought it would be. I know I'll be giving this a ton of listens in the car and at the gym or just laying back on the balcony with my earbuds on while drinking a few cold ones.

I think I may be one of the few on here that can say Ed made my year last year and CCPS made my year this year. banana.gif

Yeah, i still support both sides, but The Turn is a very good album, and The Flood And The Mercy didn't grab me at all.

This is a solid album. CCP did not forget how to make good music, and this album shows it.
  • CCP's contributions are clearly back. It's so good to hear them again. I particularly love the drums in a few of the openings, like By Design and Need Tonight.
  • Chris sounds awesome. I'm completely in the CS camp (not an Ed-hater, I just really like CS's vocals).
  • Many moments throughout I thought they captured the classic Live feel, but an updated version of it. So not quite the same (but that's fine, nothing stays the same).
  • It really sounds like an album. The songs play off of each other well and I think I like them more listening to them in the context of the album.
  • My only knock is that it's too powerful overall. With the occasional exception, the feel ranged from powerful to ultra-powerful.
I am sure there is a large-scale audience for this album. I really hope it catches on, I feel they deserve greater success. CCP for all they went through, and CS because he had the nuts to step into this role and IMHO is knocking it out of the park.

smile.gif Strangely enough, I'm already looking forward to the next album.

I really think that the album has the +Live+ feel, some folks didn't hear it that way i guess. I can definitely hear some "V" style guitar work, which i'm very happy with. I can hear some "TDTH" in there also. To me "The Turn" has +Live+ written all over it!

I think a lot keeps being made about how "Live" the album sounds. I think we all agree that Live has a certain style that seems to pop up in some form on their albums (well up through TDTH, and even smatterings thereafter), but if you really think about it...
Many fans that began following live with MJ probably shat the bed in a sense the first time they heard TC -- there was a definitive style change in the music though held onto the elements of what made Live special. And the style changes from TC to SS were even more pronounced, in fact, a lot of Live bandwagoners fell off the wagon after SS. Those of us that continued to listen were the ones that took each album on its own and were able to feel the essence of Live on each album.

I think what happened after TDTH is that the band was less of a "band" unfortunately, and the beautiful creative differences between each album and each member's collaboration in the music dipped big time. The result was bland music.

Whether you like the new "style" of The Turn, there is without question a beauty to this album in that somehow I hear echoes of old Live, an intensity that has been missing for years, all while some new and welcomed style additions.

I agree with the person who posted "this album WILL grow on me" -- I already like what i'm hearing a lot, and can only imagine what will happen with more listens when I can listen to each song individually NOT on an amazon stream smile.gif

But shit...Rodgerton has some SERIOUS samadhi-era echoes in my opinion. Cool f'in song!

So psyched for Gramercy tonight rockin.gif
