I barely posted on here before and this is my first time in a LONG time.

I like the song, actually. You guys are going to think I am crazy, but the first time I listened, when the song kicked in at roughly the one minute mark, it immediately reminded me of the film Rock Star, the scene where Wahlberg auditions. I went back and found that song on YouTube and the arpeggiated chord changes are similar.

Anyway, I actually like this song. Ed sort of became known for big, anthemic choruses, and he has continued some of that solo, so it is hard to get used to something different. But then again, formulaic songwriting isn't exciting either.

The minute long build-up is strange from a radio release perspective, but DJs will likely talk over a lot of that part on terrestrial radio. If you're listening via satellite or Pandora, you're probably likely to give the song time to build.

All in all it is a solid song, but it's not something jaw-droppingly interesting, different, or great to cause people to, ahem, turn their heads. An example of something like that, IMO is a Lankini's Juice. That's not a knock against the song. I have listened to it many times and enjoy it.

Agree about TWAIT but I do not think that Lakini's Juice did that. When it came out many people were wondering what happened to Live. It is a good song but it is overrated. There are at least a handful of song off SS which are better and can make people turn their heads.

That song from Rock Star is awesome in a cheesy 80s kind of way.

And the length of the intro is irrelevant as 1) they could easily remove it and make a "radio edit", and 2) how much airplay is a single from the new Live album even going to get?

Chad Taylor talking about this single over a year ago on FB:

I just heard the best LIVE song I've ever heard. This band is SO re-born. The track is called "Believe Tonight (You Live)" and I'm so excited. Just had to share. Next up...some tracks with Jerry Harrison and Karl Derfler. Never worked so hard but never felt better.

This worries me greatly. I'll buy it yes, I'll keep an open mind yes, but this is definitely not even as good as lighthouse.

This does not tell me much. Perhaps it is the best to him. I disagree. Siren's Call, DRTW and 6310 R. are much better. Live released songs in the past which they might considered as their best such as Lakini's Juice, Freaks and Turn my Head when they had better songs (to me). For example, Heropsychodreamer, Gas Hed, Insomnia and Ghost are superior but they remained unreleased. Iris off TC is phenomenal but it was not a single. So don't try to use Chad's words or preferences in order to objectively classify TWAIT as the best.

I always wished Iris was a single off of Throwing Copper. I bet it would have done well.

It depends on how much of Chris Shinn's money they spend on getting it on air.

My perspective is different. Lakini's was their third #1 song on a Billboard Rock chart. I enjoyed the song because it showed them moving into a new direction (though if I'd known at the time that that direction on Secret Samadhi meant depriving me of an officially released, quality recording of Hold Me Up, I'd have protested!)

My point wasn't that Lakini's is a fantastic song, but that it was something different. Getting a new singer years after your relevancy and putting out a song that is par for the course isn't going to gather much attention, which is what mfitz kind of says below.

However, something epic and out of nowhere might actually have gotten attention. That was my only point.

Like I said, a DJ would probably talk over it, and yes an edit that starts at the one minute mark makes sense too.

I also agree about that Rock Star song. Funny how we're okay with that kind of wailing when it's Chris Cornell (granted, more of a younger Chris), but not when it is an 80s singer.

Anyway, the point I was getting at I explain above. Par for the course--even if it harkens back to the early days--definitely isn't going to call attention to itself.

Is it just me, or are others hearing a sample of The Dam At Otter Creek at the VERY end of the track as it's fading out?

Hmm... not too thrilled but interesting. I thought it sounded promising in concert. The more they break away from that adult contemporary sound and use the edge in Shinn's voice the better. You can hear some damn at otter creek sampling at the end.

How it's done and why the way it's done is weird? Something more specific?

I went back and listened to all Live albums and tried to position TWAIT in terms of sound, heaviness, melody. It certainly has nothing to do with 2000s and 2010s Edian garbage. I would place it somewhere between TC and TDTH. Though it reminds of SS sound at times (i.e. intro) I do not think it would fit well with the album. If it was on TC it would be on par with Top but at the bottom of my list. If it was on TDTH it definitely beats by far songs like The Distance, Sun, Children’s Son, and Dance with You. It would tie with Run to the Water.

It's not a bad song, but it's not a great song either. It's repetitive, and it especially hurts that that hooky chorus comes in at 45 seconds... The song has barely had a chance to breathe. I'm still going to remain optimistic.

This cut is MUCH BETTER than what was on YouTube last week. Cutting down on the intro definitely gave the whole song more structure. For some reason or another I can also hear Chris' vocals and the music much better. I dunno if it's a better quality upload or what, but now I'm starting to feel the song, and it feels like LIVE.

Old video for reference:

Amazing how Live fans have such different tastes. I don't think this new song comes close to any of the songs you mentioned. I'm guessing you're referring to Face and Ghost when you say "Children's Son(g)".
