I think that CCP were valuable members of Live, and very good performers on stage. Along with Ed, they formed my favorite band on CD and in concert.

So not even anything to say about the POD performance?

And for you some update about the show...

630 upper level sold out.

total of 1900 paid and 300 hotel comps.

more than I thought, but possible since the balcony was full and wasn't able to see behind the soundboard.

But again, any word on POD?

1. Couple of things: who cares about the attendance...the success of Ed or CCP should not be valued by sales numbers, or concert sales because both entities are way past their commercial prime

2. Looks like the fans were enjoying the POD performance...of course they were enjoying it, its an amazing song...that doesn't change the fact that Ed was the primary writer of the song and some people find it odd when they perform it without him

Ok, I can accept that, but it is one of those songs in which the rythmic section gives an ambiance that shows the depth of everyone. It goes beyond the songwritting for me, at least for POD, White, Discussion and some others.

CCP perform old Live songs very well, I would never argue with that

HOB box office notes only 1400 people at the show. Actually, they didn't want to talk to me at all, so who knows if that is even accurate.

I never get the argument that because someone else wrote the song it makes it wrong for someone else to do it. Some iconic songs have been written by one person and performed by another. Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, and many many others have written songs that are even more famous done by others. Bob Dylan even said Jimmy Hendricks version of All Along the Watchtower was better than his. Then you have Rush, who's lyrics are all written by Neil Peart but sung by Geddy Lee. When I started listening to AC/DC I had no idea there were two singers, just Brian Johnson. When I found out about Bon Scott it didn't make me like AC/DC any more or less, it was still just AC/DC. Just as Live is just Live. Sure, it's still new and there is an adjustment period. But I see nothing wrong with Chris singing "Ed's" lyrics.

those are completely different examples of whats going on right now...I would absolutely no problem if someone covered "I Alone" or another Live hit...I do have a problem with CCP re-branding Live with a new lead singer...yes, its their right as 3/4 of the band and majority owner, doesn't mean that everyone has to go along with it

They're not re-branding anything. Live is about the sum of the parts not the individual parts. Actually, it's just like AC/DC. Because I didn't know about Bon Scot or have some sort of attachment to him or that version of AC/DC I was free to enjoy the Brian Johnson version when I first discovered AC/DC. Once I learned about Bon Scot I got into the earlier stuff and was able to enjoy both. It's all just AC/DC, nothing re-branded. It's the reverse for most Live fans right now but I personally don't get the fervent nature that some hold to their vision of Live. I'd bet if you discovered Live right now with Chris without knowing about Ed, you'd enjoy it more than you do having known about Ed. I'm not sure why anyone would let that get in the way of enjoying it. To each their own though, and yes, you are free to go along with whatever you want.

I guess the difference is that Live 2.0 hasn't created anything yet...all they have done is perform old songs...they complained and Chad posted several times about the creative handcuffs that CCP have had on since 1999, and they release one CD with The Gracious Few cd since the breakup, and thats it..they haven't put out anything as Live...I hope my tune will change when they release new music but for right now, all they are doing is performing old songs with no new material and I dont find anything about that impressive

They went straight from TGF into Live last year. They announced Chris as the singer in the spring, did some writing and recording in the summer and fall, and a tour this summer. Now they're finishing their studio and getting in there to complete the album. Most importantly, they've been coming together as a band again and I'm sure it will show when the album is released. What most fans are experiencing now is something they haven't gotten with Live in a long time. A true band in every sense of the word. You really get the sense of that if you attend a show and are lucky enough to talk with them. It's to be expected that some will never want to accept this version of Live. That's fine. I think it's too bad though because the band is alive and well and performing at a high level and delivering a great experience.

The show was no where near capacity from reports I received. Your figures have 2200 people there in a 2400 person venue. I am calling false.

I can buy roughly 1400 in attendance with under 1000 paid.

I don't care Nick, really. Nice show! Maybe it's between your numbers and mine, who knows? I'm not arguing anymore on that topic. Got these numbers anyway.

I couldn't imagine being at HOB last Saturday with Ed and CCP on stage together, watching them play Throwing Copper knowing that they reconciled for business purposes just to sell out the venue, while they just plain don't get along or agree with each other musically, and have been throwing each other under the bus for the past few years. It would be especially fake and disconnected. The show would attract hardcore fans who would look at Live with less respect.

I agree. Who cares? Fans enjoyed the show and CCP are not going to spam tour dates like some other "artists". Pretty good turn out either way.
