I didn't notice any lyric mistakes at the show I saw and if I did it wouldn't have detracted from my enjoyment of the show one bit. You're really exaggerating to try to make your point. By all accounts those that went to the show thoroughly enjoyed it.

Someone texted a review of the show last night. They initially enjoyed the show, but the set for her fell apart about 5 songs in. That is when they saw Chris Shinn not interacting with the crowd and focusing more on reading the lyrics to the songs that they were performing. They also found it lame that they had back-up singers offstage to help Shinn hit certain notes. The person also was disappointed in Chad Taylor's performance, saying he lacked energy on stage.

Someone you know? Yeah, that's not biased. But lets say it's legit, that's one.

do not agree with the interaction of Shinn with the crowd...didn't speak that much to us, but singing and performing for us.

As for Chad T, I must admit it was a low point for me at this show. Difference between other band members and him was too big. Rythmic section killed it, as usual!

Singers do forget the lyrics on occasion, but I don't believe Chris Shinn has ever made it through a show where he didn't make noticeable mistakes with the lyrics to Live's songs. I can guarantee that when Ed performs Throwing Copper in 2014, he won't be reading lyrics out of a book.

When Ed started his solo acoustic tour that barely pre-dated the hiatus, Ed used a music stand with lyrics and/or chords. Having not played POD, Stage and DAOC in quite awhile, I wouldn't be surprised if he either had supplements on stage to assist in that department or made a lyrical error. In my opinion either wouldn't matter, the man has messed up the lyrics to Lightning Crashes, the song he's probably played the most. It happens. He is human, Chris is human, and for a lead man that is singing and playing an instrument while juggling all of the other processes it is very simple thing to happen. Also, like maestro said, he probably didn't forget lyrics but got lost in the song. There is a distinction there.

Best +LIVE+ show I have been to in probably a decade. WOW. There was energy on that stage and in that crowd I haven't seen at a show in a long time. So glad to have the intensity back with this band. Pillar of Davidson and Stage were the big highlights of the night for me. POD was the best I have heard ever, that's including the TC tour of 95 when I saw them at The Spectrum.

I just saw Ed in Oslo.
He forgot the lyrics twice.
On "all that i wanted" and on one more song i think it was p.o.d.
So to blame Chris forgetting some lyrics is not right.
Ed actually had to start "all that i wanted" over again because he fucked up the lyrics.

I also met Ed after the show and he barely looked at me and he didn't wanna talk to me at all, just posed for a photo and walked away. All that he wanted was to talk to the ladies that was there.

I went to see Gracious Few in London a couple of years a go.
They played in a small bar and I was one of few who knew all of the songs and sang along and rocked out.

I could see that Chad T looked at me several times from the stage and pointed at me and smiled.
When they walked off the stage he stopped where I stood and startet to talk to me.
When he heard that I had come all the way from Norway to see them he gave me a hug and said that I had to wait for them at the bar for a drink.

I missed them at the bar because the place was packed, but even thou you could feel that he cares about his fans.

I got to talk to PD as well and he was a little quiet but also very nice. We took a picture and he thanked me for coming.

It looks like for me that PD,CG and CT are more friendly and cares more about the fans and ED is more into flirting with the girls and selling merch.

I think ED talked about the merch. table at least four times during the show.
I think that's kinda lame.

So it's better to be true to your fans and genuine and then fuck up lyrics rather then be and ass and fuck up lyrics.

Anonymous review:

"Okay, sorry this is so long, but to make it easier, I just copied & pasted the VERY thorough review I wrote for my friend ...She's like the 3rd person in my little Live crew group, but she moved out of the country so we also have to send her super-detailed emails. Enjoy! Sorry about the "girly" stuff. We get there soon after doors just opened, and the general admin area is about 10 rows deep already (a little surprising), but we weren't super bummed or anything because for me at least, there's no Ed/no need to be super close. Haha. We both went into the show with an open mind I think, and were excited to see some of the old Live play and hear the Throwing Copper songs we love. Didn't know what to picture though, since we never heard Chris Shinn's voice. They did TC in order, and we were both into it when it started.

Chris wasn't a good front man, meaning he wasn't running around the stage, being showy, or much crowd interaction, but his voice was good- he did sound like Ed (I mean the way he was singing- similar sound, just not AS good). Then came either Iris or Top (song 4 or song 6, can't remember which one it was), and it all went downhill from there- FAST. We soon realized why he wasn't running around the stage or looking up much at the crowd. At the foot of the mic stand was a big book. It was opened and he was reading the song lyrics. His eyes were down reading it for many of the songs, but what made it worse was that he was MISSING or messing up the words. It was embarrassing. ....and I turned it into something funny though. During "Top," when the lyric says, "No, you are not the one I wish to see." We were like, "EXACTLY!!" Haha. Or during TBD the lyric is, "But I don't need a book," and we were like, "YES YOU DO!" Haha. ...

.noticed during the show that they had background singers hidden off the side of the stage- 2 of them. They were singing chorus parts to help fill in Chris's vocals. I think the most cringe-worthy part was when they did "Waitress." You know the long whistling at the end? Well at first Chris tries or PRETENDS to whistle, but it's the background singer. Then he realizes he can't do the whistling, so he just stops, but it looks funny because you hear the whistling but don't see anyone. (They didn't announce the background singers). It was horrible. What else was disappointing is that the other guys weren't picking up the "lack of frontman" slack! I mean, even though Chris had ample time to learn the songs, I still don't totally blame him because he was asked to front a band that's not his and they're not his songs. He knows going in that it's got to be uncomfortable since you have tons of devoted fans to Live. Actually, he was very humble about the whole thing- even at the end of the show he was like, "Thank you for letting me do this. These songs deserved to be put out there and performed and you've been gracious," etc.

But I would have expected Taylor to run around the stage stomping and stuff. NOPE. NOTHING. No smiling, jumping, moving from his spot on stage. Even during White Discussion his old stomp became a geriatric step like he was avoiding stepping on a "black widow spider." Seriously, it lasted 5 seconds. As for setlist, they did all of TC without Horse, then they left and came back for the encore to do Operation Spirit, the Dolphin's Cry, Lakini's Juice, and ended with Horse. For Horse they mentioned special guests in the audience (past producers, managers, etc), and brought out Chris Thorn who used to tour with them during the Secret Samadhi tour playing slide guitar. He played slide guitar during Horse, and they also introduced the background singers. Chris Shinn made a "joke" that it was the background singers singing the whole time. Overall, it was a lackluster show and it left me with an "eh," disappointed feeling.

I decided by like song 6 that I won't be seeing them without Ed again. I would see Ed WITH a touring band again though. At least he has emotion and force when he sings, even if it's acted & scripted, and he's become a jerk otherwise. ....said he thought Gracey was drumming too fast at parts. I thought something sounded off musically also, but I don't have the ear to know exactly what was off specifically. ...would definitely know though. He said he was texting with Adam Kowalczyk during the entire show (....is friends with Adam and has always been a Live fan. Even more interesting is that he's also friends with Chris Shinn). I said I wonder what Adam thinks of all this since he's stuck in the middle between family and the band he used to play with/probably was friends with. ....just shrugged it off .Then they left and go downstairs to get something to eat, and I hear a band playing on the same small stage that Ed played at a few months ago when we saw him in AC. I hear a Third Eye Blind song playing, and I ask...if they're here too, but she said no, they are touring somewhere right now. So I look over and I see Lifespeed on stage! I've always wanted ....to see Lifespeed. We go and watch them for a few songs, but we were starving so we went to eat. We had a fun time, but I think it was the after show experience and seeing

.....talking to people is what made it the most fun. 😊 From a crowd point of view, it seemed like there were a lot of devoted Chris fans, but I did hear some people behind me agree that Chris should have known the lyrics. His friend said, "well TBD is a hard song with a lot of lyrics," but he said, "No, he should know it."

My friend came to town from Pittsburgh, we drove to AC together to see the show. I have to look to know for sure, but I think this was my 31st LIVE concert (3rd w/Chris Shinn as singer). My friend has seen them probably 10 less times.
I sort of skimmed over some of these 10 pages. I don't have time to read all the arguing. I will say I did notice, of course, that Chris missed some lyrics. He also misspoke "drinking dominos and play-[laughter] beer" (he realized what he had sang and laughed before totally switching drinking and playing during Horse.) It was very funny and I don't count it as not knowing lyrics, just simply misspeaking - transposing words - something I do all the time. I can't say I'd never seen Ed miss lyrics. There's no point in arguing about it. It didn't take away from the show for me.

We were standing in front of Pat. I've either stood directly in front of Pat or Chad T at most shows I've been to - I don't usually stand right in front of the singer. Chad, when I did look over at him, seemed to be deeply engaged in shredding his guitar. He seemed much more pensive - yes there was less stomping - his energy was much less - I don't know the word - maybe violent than what I've seen before. But I wouldn't say he had less energy. It was just a different kind of energy. He also looked like he was having a great deal of fun.

Speaking of Energy - Pat absolutely blew my mind. First of all, I've never heard so much bass - never. I've also never seen Pat have so much fun. I don't know if Pat played different basslines or what - but it was awesome.

Chris was amazing. I like Chris. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect, even though I've seen them twice before with him out front, but this was so good.
Criticism that Chris doesn't interact with the crowd is ridiculous. Chris isn't trying to be sexy. It's a different interaction that what I've seen from Ed for years (and I enjoyed Ed and think he's sexy, so I didn't mind him being sexy).
Criticism of the backup singers is also crazy to me. They did great. and they weren't there to help Chris reach notes. They were there to simply make a more full sound. I'm glad they were there. They were great. They received recognition (I had seen them in the wings and was wondering if/when they would come out) and came out to take their bow.
Christopher Thorn also came out for Horse. That was awesome. The first time I saw LIVE in 98 at the Chameleon, Christopher Thorn was on stage with them. So it was a cool treat. I'd never seen Horse performed. It was awesome.

I don't have musical specifics. I will probably just keep using the words "awesome," "amazing," and "wonderful," if I keep trying to describe every aspect of the show. I really think this was best show I've seen since that first show in 98, if not the best ever. Each song was better than the next, until Pillar of Davidson - which was most certainly the single greatest performance of any song that I've ever seen. it was ridiculously powerful. White, Discussion was a close 2nd for me.

Not once did I find myself giving a shit who wrote the lyrics, music, melodies, or any other part of anything (that's for you, Nick - I have you on ignore but I know you're reading). Not once did I find myself thinking anything other than "holy shit this is all kinds of awesome" or variations thereof.

Pardon the pun: it rocked. Legit rocked. Unbelievable. I cannot wait to see youtube videos and I deeply hope they recorded that.

We managed to get ourselves into the meet and greet (with a little help), we got to talk to the guys (who are all so kind and amazing) and I got some stuff signed for a guy I work with.

I give the shows 5 stars out of 4. tongue.gif
This is an opinion. If you were there and you disagree, that's cool. This is America [I'm in America. I recognize that some of you may not be. I hope in your country you're allowed to disagree]. You're allowed to disagree. But I don't care. Because I had an amazing weekend. And all I care about is my experience.
Which, by the way, was awesome, amazing, and wonderful happy.gif

oh, also - I ran into a guy I met at an F&M College show in I don't know what year. He hadn't seen them with Chris singing. He was on the railing next to me. He looked at me 3 songs in and said "this guy fucking rocks"
And then at the after party, at the bar, while waiting for my ($12!!) drink, some guy started chatting it up and turns out, he's seen LIVE twice. Once this summer, and Saturday. He is dating a girl who dragged him to a show this summer and he loved it. He said he had heard of LIVE before, and knew some of the radio hits, but never knew anything about the band. He didn't know any of the lead singer drama until after he saw the first show this summer. He was "super pumped" about a new album (no joke, he said super pumped) and absolutely enjoyed Saturday's show. I did not hear any complaints. But I wasn't walking around asking people what they thought, either. I wasn't looking for comments good or bad. I was just super pumped about what I had just seen ;-)

If CCP and had rejoined with Ed for a Throwing Copper show at HOB Atlantic City, it would have been a very easy sell out.

If CCP had rejoined with Ed they would have been sellouts!

You keep pushing this idea of CCP cancelling on Ed. Ed has said many times that he wanted to go in a new direction, that he wanted to start a new chapter, that he is happy that he's doing his own thing.

For some reason you're not listening to Ed or CCP - you're not happy that they're all happy.
