Ed wanted to move on from LIVE. So why is he interested in Throwing Copper?

One can only guess. Probably moneyyyy.

He even posted the video of I Alone on FB today. Hurray! I surprised me that he didn't edited the others 3 out of the clip.

I think it's a bad idea for both camps. Are they just doing it to piss each other off? And why a TC show? That's not their only worthy album.. are they doing TC just because it charted well? I know it propelled them to the forefront of the music world in the 90s, but throwing a big 20th anniversary show just seems kinda weird to me. Maybe these 20th anniversary shows are typical for bands??

Cause it wouldn't make sense to do a secret samadhi show on its 17th anniversary. Between Ed and CCP maybe they can get some royalties if they sell a couple more copies of TC. Good teamwork

Ed DEF has the passion and alot more vocal to do tc than shinn anyday.

He may have some sort of passion YOU like, good for you, but not THE passion he had when making and performing TC. Just accept that. Don't try to bring up other things like you not liking Chris or Ed is better then Chris or Chris don't know the lyrics to songs (how do you even know?). It has nothing to do with it. Ed doesn't have anymore, what it takes to perform it the right way. That's oke for some, but don't pretend it isn't so. Thank you.

If Ed really did come up with the idea, then it further proves he's all about the money grab. His greed knows no boundaries and is fully illustrated by this poster and tour. Sad to see him shoving dirt onto his/Live's reputation over and over again.

A money grab doesn't mean its greed. Maybe all the guys should just give away their albums and concert tickets for free, instead of grabbing money. CCP are doing the same thing, but you wouldn't call that greed because you're totally not objective.

Cause there's a difference between the bandmates and the music, and he's trying to sell his music. Obviously

Not sure why you would say chris has vocals to do tc because i disagree 100 percent.
Dude doesn't even know lyrics to it.

That's just a hunch though.

Cause I've seen Ed and Live play in the past couple years. CCP bring it and Chris' voice sounds good in person IMO. I just don't like his recorded vocals very much. Ed's vocals back in 2010 weren't that great in concert but the show had it's moments, and you never know what he's gonna do or say at a show that is really cool...certain Edisms, there's some Live left in him yet. Shinn is team player but doesn't really have that extra thing.

Bet he demanded a lead singer bonus. Sorry, that is never going away

Yeah, it is. Too bad he couldn't get one though...he deserves it.
And it doesn't even make sense here with this now.
You're just an idiot. lol.gif

Because they are his songs? Because he wrote the whole cd?

I recently posted in another thread that I thought it was weird for CCP to play a show where they do TC in its entirety with a new singer.

I think its also weird for Ed to do it without the rest of the band. It just seems that should be something done by the whole band and that would be cool.

HOWEVER, if you put Ed doing TC in one theater on one side of town and CCP in a theater on the other side of town, which one would you go see?

I'd go see Ed. Ed with another band can make the songs sound closer to being "right". Maybe super fans can hear the difference in the band (or will think they can), but its nowhere near as glaring a change as having a different lead singer, a guy who didn't write all of the songs, up there singing it. Especially not to a casual fan.

I think I would also find it kind of awkward if I were Chris Shinn. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of an album you didn't write or play on with a band you were not in, especially where anyone still interested in Live is going to be doing nothing but observing how different you sound from Ed, just seems like it would be uncomfortable.

True Live fans have accepted that Chriss Shinn is the new singer with his ups and downsides. Summerland tour went right, they delivered with an edge not seen in years. Weird for Shinn for sure, but he must deliver by knowing the lyrics because then it would feel awckward. But the guys came back to studio after the tour to rehearse I guess. I'd go to CCCP's TC.

As for Ed, only singing wise, he looks better than the last couple of years, staying more in his range. The version of Pillar of Davidson on youtube was nice, but I don't see him deliver the loudest side of Live (reference to the LJ video from Atlantic City that was bad)

I'm a true Live fan. Have been since the early 90's. That doesnt mean that I like the end product with him behind the mic though. I didnt make it to a Summerland show, but I did watch the show that they put on TV. It was just ok (I have a short review of it on here somewhere, not going to rehash that).

Given a choice between the 2, I would go see the Ed show for the reasons that mfitz lists. His post was an excellent representation of how I view all of this.

Put both shows in the same place on different nights, and I'd be there for both of them.

I agree with everything you said here, good post. An anniversary concert/tour should be to commemorate the 20 years and should only be done if the original group does it together. Ed should not be doing it on his own and CCP should absolutely not be doing it with a different lead singer and lyricist of the songs.

If you checked the credits for each song in the CD you'd see that's not true.

I can't remember where I read it, but it looks like Ed will also be performing the Throwing Copper album throughout the USA next year after the Australian shows.
