Jesus, it's really not that complicated. As Ed's ego grew he accepted less and less input from the others and the music suffered. CCP finally stood up for themselves and Ed essentially said F You. I can't tell you how he was removed from their contracts, but he is no longer part of Live or the company they set up to run Live. He can refer to his time in Live in past tense but he has been referring to Live in a way that can be construed as him still being in the band. He has since cleaned that up a bit.

It's still pretty cheesy to call your tour I Alone. He's the one who has said on multiple occasions that he needed to do something new. He sure doesn't appear to be doing much different other than not working with CCP. Hence the similarity to SFBM. The last time CCP had any meaningful input was on songs like Lighthouse and Like I Do, which coincidentally are most people's favorites from BOP.
