All of the bands on the Summerland tour are missing key members. Live is hitting the road without frontman Ed Kowalczyk, and Art Alexakis is the only member of Everclear remaining from the classic lineup. Filter still has original singer Richard Patrick, but the rest of the group members joined in the past couple of years. Sponge singer Vinnie Dombroski is still at the helm, but the rest of the group joined in the 2000s.

Pretty weak!

As of right now there are 3 90's based tours scheduled for the US this summer:

1. Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox Twenty

2. Under the Sun Tour: Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, Gin Blossoms, Vertical Horizon, and Fastball

3. Summerland: Everclear, Live, Filter, and Sponge

Mark Mcgrath of Sugar Ray and Art Alexakis of Everclear started Summerland last year, but had a falling out so they split their tours up(and diluted the concept).

You forgot #4 - The Package Tour: New Kids, 98 Degrees, Boyz II Men eh.gif Which I would argue will make the most $ of the 4.

Can't wait to see the new Live lineup. Having seen the "Art Alexakis Band" several times, they are a lot of fun and put on a good show. Looking forward to seeing Sponge again, I haven't seen them since they opened for Live in '95. Odd mix of venues, some amphitheaters and some clubs. Glad to see that Denver got a club date. As much as I hate co-headlining tours, I'll be there for sure.

You are probably right on that one. We can party like its 1995! smile.gif

All four members of Live really should suck it up and reunite. They are the rare band from the 90's that have the ability to tour with their original line-up and headline. The fact that the band that they built up over 20 years is now opening for Everclear(a band that Live should never have to open for) on the 4th or 5th most popular 90's nostalgia tour of summer 2013 is a bit disappointing.

It would be one things for Ed solo or The Gracious Few to open for a weaker 90's band, but Live should never have to.

Another 90s tour though not as big is supposedly being booked (nothing official yet)- Big Head Todd/Soul Asylum/Matthew Sweet

Pretty weak!

From you, I wouldn't expect anything less.

BTW - based on your comment you would also have to claim that Ed, playing mostly Live material and touring with all new members, would also classify as pretty weak. And don't hide behind the "he's not Live" BS because he's been touring as "of Live" and now "formerly of Live" since he departed.

Ed never toured solo as Live. It is a huge difference.

Pretty weak indeed. You can't hide behind the name game. What's on stage is what's on stage!

People going to see Ed aren't going to hear his solo album - they want to hear Live. That's why he says he's playing all his hits and that's exactly why he plays them.

Ed Kowalczyk "of Live" touring with a back up band and performing Live songs is not different than Art touring with a back up band and playing Everclear songs as Everclear. It's the exact same concept performing to an audience.

Hoodie, did you envision in 2009 that Live's comeback tour in 2013 would be opening for Everclear?

Thanks for egging me on. Did you envision in 2013 that Ed would be playing two free shows in a casino corner lounge with a full band?

Why anyone has to put up with this negativity and sarcasm in a discussion about a new Live tour on a Live fan board is beyond me.

I don't understand why it continues to be allowed.

Getting back to the point - why you go out of your way to search for negatives to immediately rip everything Live does is childish.

It's quite a comprehensive tour. They're playing 5 shows straight at one point - that's going to be a killer.

I think these sort of tours are a good idea, hopefully Live gets a decent set length. Being second on the bill should ensure that they get at least 60 minutes (but hopefully 75!)

Good call Hoodie. I would much rather see Live do a so-called nostalgia tour than Ed play these sad shows for 20 drunk guys at a Casino lounge.

75 is out of the question. Last year all Summerland bands got 45....my guess would be between 45/60.

I think them doing a tour like this might be a good logistical move. If they are trying to re-image the band. To establish it against the pop-rock that occurred post TDTH, then doing it in a manner that's going to bring people to hear the band that aren't there exclusively to see Live could work.

It's the exact opposite of what Ed has done, which has been to "move on" from Live by playing set-lists 70% composed of Live tracks.

If I had to guess, more than 70% of the songs played on this tour from Live will be from Throwing Copper + Lakini's Juice and then maybe throw in a Rattlesnake or Freaks. Not much different from what Ed is doing. We will see though.
