What do you like about the song Nick?

I think you're being trolled. There is no way anyone finds that song well done.

Exactly.

If I'm being trolled he'll run away and hide as per usual.

If he's being genuine he'll respond with some good reason why he likes the song so much.

I'll go with the former.

U people must have very sad and unfulfilled lives to spend your christmas bagging out a bloke for singing a christmas carol at chris6tmas time I had forgotten what looserville this board had become!! For what its worth i'm glad he did it his rendition is very unique with a 'haunted' feel to it that i really like.

Trust me it goes way deeper than just this song (which i have heard better versions sang by 5th graders) but anyway. It just blows my mind that he has lost everything that he once had and everything that made him great. Oh, btw why are you bagging on us? Hypocrisy is not a progressive trait!

It's CHRISTMAS!!

I've never heard the original song before so I don't have anything to compare to, but I like this song. It is better than anything he has released from any of his solo efforts. I was ready for the worst after silent night. Congratulations ed, one good song out of like 25.

Thanks for the rip hoodie.

"The usual suspects criticize it" thats one of those meaningless statements that could easily be "the usual suspects gush over it" like absolutely anything he puts out and don't criticize it, one of them would take a 10 track EP of "Ed Kowalczyk farts into a jar" and claim its his greatest work (don't forget the remixes on that EP too!)
I guess it's because we want more from Ed, we don't just like any old shit he throws together tongue.gif When Ed produces quality, I'll praise it smile.gif

I'd never heard the song before either. It's not a popular carol in oz. Compared to Andrea Bocelli, i agree the rendition is lesser. But he's doing it to fulfil a request, on christmas, give the guy a fucking break. For once it seems there is no agenda.

Is he even doing it for a request? Someone said he should do one and he said he was, doesn't mean it wasn't already something he wasn't going to do anyways.

I've heard the song a fair few times, it's not as popular as some christmas songs, but still gets played a bit, traditionally it has that more cool gothic vibe to it some of those carols can have.

Anyways, no, Ed doesn't "get a break". Not having an agenda for one thing doesn't excuse everything else.

Ok.. so even if Ed had the release ready as a gift to his fans before it was requested it doesn't change things. He didn't advertise it and more importantly to many, he didn't charge for it.

I'm not saying people should forgive what he's accused of because he has released one tune.. I'm saying maybe people shouldn't judge this release with the pre-perception that because it's from Ed it's a unashamed gold-digging, ego-boosting opportunity.

Fair enough people have their opinions, but in this instance i think it is what it is..a xmas gift to his fans..appreciated or not.

I didn't prejudge it. You cannot believe how much I would love to hear Ed belt out something like he did back in the day. He's changed, his voice has changed - whether he has purposely done that I don't know or whether he has lost what he had, I also don't know - and as a person something seems to have gone wrong with morals he supposedly had.

Last night I was chatting online with a friend who I picked up from the airport this morning. My daughter came out (after going to bed) and I got her back to bed after playing Ed's Christmas carol...I told her she'd have to listen to that if she wanted to stay up! I was telling my friend, who naturally wanted to hear this Christmas carol. We had a bit of a laugh over it. She said no wonder the kid went to bed. I save my Ed bashing for on here. End of story. This morning in the car Sparkle from the Simple Creed single came on from my playlist and SHE SAID (she is not a great LIVE fan but knows I am) 'Does Ed not realise how cool he used to be? He is shithouse now'.

There you go - from someone that has no idea of all the drama surrounding Ed and LIVE. I think it summed things up pretty well.

Actually on further thought, it definitely wasn't a fulfilled request, considering it has 2 producers credited to it I would say there is no way he saw a youtube comment and organised all that in a couple of days. That'd be like saying someone saying "Ed come to *insert city here*" and then a couple of days later a gig get announced there, he wasn't fulfilling a request for that, just the way it happened.

I can't speak for anyone else, I'm not judging it on pre-perception, I mean based on previous offerings I could have guessed it'd be bad, but the song itself solidified that for me. I don't like it because of the music, its definitely not a gold digging attempt like he usually does or anything like that, it was a christmas gift to fans, nothing sinister behind it (for once), never said there was. But that doesn't make it good tongue.gif

I'm still of the opinion that if Ed puts something good out, I'll admit it and I'll like it. There are plenty who don't like Zion, but I've always maintained I actually quite like it, and others have admitting they like the sound or vibe or Eat Your Love (lyrics aside). I would say that for all the piles of shit that "the usual suspects" give Ed, we have still been more complimentary at times for things he's done than certain other usual suspects have been of things that don't involve Ed.
This is the fundamental difference between "us and them", I would LOVE Ed to impress me again, for all the shit I give him and as much as he deserves it, he has made some incredible music over the years and I would absolutely love to hear him make more of it, and if he did I would admit it, and the proof of that is the fact I go on record saying I really like Zion. I'm not afraid to admit that. The other side for example, really don't want any good music to be made, so...

also, lol at youtube comments being disabled under all of Ed's videos, now theres a man who doesn't want to hear what people have to say. Hand in hand with deleting anything remotely questioning or negative on facebook. Ed's obviously been reading less of Krishnamurti and more of chairman Mao recently!
