Guys, is it really thansgiving today in the US? We do not celebrate it, but now I have something pretty symbolical to tell and now we can compare Ed and CCCP not from the musical side or even the money (who cares about the money anyway). But from another point of view.

Generosity.

I will start this thread with a simple comparison.

I love the only thing about Ed in the last couple of years. His donations to the children. However, could anyone please tell me whether we have any proof the children are really helped and receive that water (or money or whatever it was)? This is my only question.

The next point. After reading Nick's comparison about the touring etc for the 100500th time today, I thought about generosity. Is ed generous enough to invite his fans to his shows for free? Let e remind you that my humble self was invited to come over to the Netherlands to see TGF by the Chad Taylor himself.

While touring TGF were not that busy with promotion. They had some cool local stuff with starting the band from the very beggining, playing pubs, tiny clubs and what not. The spirit of this is enormous. However, if we talk about generosity, remember An Honest Deal? Anyone who was in the area could come see the band for 10 BUCKS! 10 fucking dollars! While Ed's tickets are.... More than 30 or even 50?..

anyway, back on topic. A couple of months ago someone posted a pic in a new Live tshirt. Remember, the one with LIVE + CCCP. I try to always comment on pics like those, as I do like them.

Guess what.

Today I went to the post office and received a parcel from The Thrill himself (yea, I know his ad now woot hi.gif ) and you know what was in it? There was a LIVE + CCCP and a TGF tshirt. Two shirts just as a gift, without any payment, without any wish to get my money or smth else.
He contacted me via FB to say that it was the gift for me from both bands and from him as well. So I will def. try and take my time to make nice pics and share them with everyone interested.

now THIS is generosity I think.

Who cares about money after all?

Ed: Back when Ed was in live like right at the end they gave me the opportunity to meet them after the show for free which was super cool. I recall Ed gave us a free recording of his acoustic shows (waterrats) Free downloads of his singles too but we already had them. That's about it for Ed.

TGF: I got a free shirt just for going to the show. They gave us downloads of appetite and trecedim before we had leaks.

Live: Mallrat and photograph was the best gift ever. I also consider the post that chad probably took hours to type in response to Merica's request to be a gift. It was like a "behind the music" post.

I haven't seen any Ed or Live shows so naturally they can't be as generous. I can say this though; TGF and LIVE are nowhere as bad as Ed when it comes to trying to scrape money from the fans. I think my TGF ticket was 15 dollars and I got a shirt for free. Ed's tickets cost way more and if you want a shirt you are going to have to fork over $20 and dig it out from a mountain of unsold coffee. As for Live's tickets... did you guys get charged for the secret show?

As true as an artist can be...totally agree with Chad's blog being a gift. Ed never went in these details.

The Gracious Few giving me a signed drum head before their very first show.

Getting an invite from 2 great guys to the March show, then getting allowed in first so that we could sit up front.

The Gracious Few: All the guys came out after the show, talked to everyone that was there, had drinks, took pictures, and signed stuff. They were great to the crowd and were happy to speak to the fans. It was an awesome experience. I especially enjoyed talking to Sean, he's a really cool guy.

Live: I met Live twice. Once outside of a venue on the way to the bus and once backstage. Outside they signed autographs on the way to the bus for fans who waited behind a gate. This was during the SS Tour when Live was huge. When I was backstage (during the SFBM Tour) band had a cheese / meat tray that was passed around and had plenty of beer for everyone. At that concert each of the members happily posed for pictures. Gracey, Ed, Adam, and Pat were talking with everyone. It was neat to be able to have a conversation with each of them. At this show Taylor did quick photos but did not hang around to chat. As a Live fan it was a great experience.

Ed: I have not been to an Ed solo show so I cannot comment on the experience.

The are the most generous guys I know!

While in the studio in Saucilito I shipped my guitar to them to sign for an autism fundraiser. To make a long story short the guitar was broken by Fedex, I went into panic-mode because I didn't have enough time to ship them a replacement, Kevin got a brand new guitar shipped to him, they all signed it and sent it to me! How freakin' awesome and generous is that for you!!!

IPB Image

There have been more in between stories, too many to tell, but just recently they donated to a fundraiser for a friend of mine. Kevin got the guys to sign a drum head

IPB Image

and Chad Taylor sent an authographed Public Affection poster from his private collection.

IPB Image

both items I think someone from here has.

But yeah, awesome, amazing, generous guys!! Love them all

Ed, that's awesome and super cool of the Thrill!!

Regarding World Vision - it is a highly respected charitable organization and 86% of every dollar donated goes to the children and their families and communities. World Vision sends kids to school, gets them clothing, books, gives livestock to families (chickens, goats, rabbits, whatevers appropriate) so the family has food and a source of income.

Regarding the band members, they have all (CCP and Ed) been awesome to me. The Thrill and CCP arranged for us to have free tickets and sit front row in March. that was pretty amazing. Chris was great and it was awesome to meet him after the show.
I don't think I have anything truly bad to say about any of the guys from my *personal* experience... regarding things I've read, and other behaviors... well that's a different story.
