Because the other option wasn't any good either. Voting for the lesser of two evils is still facilitating the rise of evil to power? As I say, I'm not advocating not voting. I just think it's stupid it's suggest people who didn't vote shouldn't complain.

I sort of agree, its more a case by case scenario really, its too hard to blanket - who's complaining, what are they complaining about etc...
If for example you believe that Romney would have been so much better and you hate Obama and this policy he has and Romney's would have been so much better ... but you didn't vote for Romney (or either), then stfu. If as you say, you really have a strong dislike for what both candidates are offering and you didn't vote on principal that you didn't want to lend support to either party, fair enough.
Basically I think it comes down to why you didn't vote, if it was pure laziness that you couldn't drag your ass to a polling station but want to sit and whinge then you need to stfu. If you made an informed decision not to vote, then yeah i see the point. I just don't think it's super black and white, as always there are variables.

bob is my dad's hero. He's pretty cool but don't like how he treated poor old Hazel and that crazy lady he is married to now.... bomb.gif

Bob is awesome! When I worked for a health insurance company he actually called up at one point to check something on his cover and was just a real down to earth and pleasant person to speak to on the phone. I've spoken to a heap of high profile people both political and celebrity through the job and he was one of the best in terms of having zero attitude and didn't try any fame game tricks or anything.

We as Americans weren't voting for our next savior, only for a new bank manager.

If you are too stupid to vote, educate yourself. Stop using damn excuses, stop being a lazy piece of shit. Figure it out and vote. It is not difficult.

There are people that don't vote, not because of being uninformed or "too stupid" but rather from being too informed and that can't bring themselves to be complicit in the atrocities committed by government.

Let me get this straight, from browsing this thread, some of guys in other countries get fined if you don't vote? Wow! That blows my mind.

Yes, in Australia voting is compulsory for all federal and state elections. If you don't vote then you are issued a fine.

Local government elections are optional in most locations but some localities make them mandatory.

I think most of the world wanted to see Obama re-elected and I'm not sure why. His foreign policy, peace prize notwithstanding, has been a continuation of senseless murder, increased drone strikes, and loss of life that started with Bush.

Romney would have been the same.

I don't vote for murderous sociopaths, so that means, I cannot vote in any election because to be the head of the United States you must be willing to murder innocent people for agendas that are below self-defense.

Steve kind of summed it up for me there.
I should have just said it's my right NOT to vote just as much as it is yours to vote.
I am not stupid ...truthfully, i just don't give a shit.
Glad it's over. I never talk politics nor complain for this simple reason.

Because people jump down my throat. Can't win either way.

In related news, Jesse Jackson Jr. was re-elected in a landslide in Illinois...while he is currently in a mental hospital while also being under investigation by the FBI and the House Ethics Committee.

Well done, indeed, America.

Uh huh... right.. of course you're not stupid.. no. couldn't possibly be. lol.

I'd argue and say you're pretty stupid when it comes to politics. There's the self admission that you already don't know anything about it, and then I'll throw ignorant in there too with a comment like "I just don't give a shit". Nice to see your stupidity expands beyond your skills at trolling, lying, and oh yeah, bad musical tastes smile.gif

Through Victoria, voting in the recent council elections was mandatory, which is one I don't agree with because you're just voting for people with zero power and zero credibility.

Although you don't HAVE to vote in Aus so long as you never registered to vote. My parents for example never registered to vote and they don't get fined because they are not on the electoral role, but once you register, that's it.

Seems like you just changed your reason for not voting when someone gave you a better reason than "I'm too stupid to understand it".

You don't have to be absolutely engrossed in it and follow every single twist and turn and be an expert on it to know enough to vote. "i just don't give a shit" is something I expect to hear from my 18 year old cousin trying to sound cool because politics is "fuckin boring n shit" ... and yeah it can be a total drag, but it's important and helps shape the country you live in.

But I guess in some ways that's a good thing the way the American system is, it gives the people who "just don't give a shit" a chance for their voice not to be officially heard. Rather than them forced to walk in on election day and cast a nothing vote like the ones here have to.

Also, even if i did vote , they both suck. So yeah, i probably wouldn't have.
One man can't fix everything anyway... it takes everyone working together. Which clearly... will never happen. Not in this lifetime anyway. So just don't worry about whether i voted or not.

And stop taking your digs saying "oh, you're such a bad person because you didn't. "
doesn't phase me in the least.

Well it seems you're in the "too lazy to vote/don't give a shit" category as opposed to the "I have looked at what both candidates have to offer and don't want to throw my support behind either, here's why..." category, which to me is the sort of people who shouldn't be whinging when they don't like something in politics.

^ Merica, this is the sort of example I was thinking of when I say people who don't vote don't really have a great grounds for complaint. Not those who are in that second category I mentioned. These ones are admittedly uneducated about political topics and then admit to not giving a shit enough to want to try and learn about said things. Suddenly when something comes along that affects them personally and they whinge about it, then they find themselves giving a shit. I'd ask where that was on election day. To me it's a selfish attitude.

This isn't a dig at you personally, there are so many people like this all over the world, not just you or in America, it's speaking broadly. And personally I don't really give a shit if you voted or not, it's when you hear those people whinging later on about things and you ask if they threw their support behind the opposite of what they're whinging about, and they say "no", well...

I was more wanting to expand on what Merica was saying, I thought the point had merit, but was a bit simplistic in terms of not taking into account why people didn't vote.

As you say, carry on smile.gif
