At this point I think it's easier to talk objectively about Obama v. Romney with blind party followers than it is to talk about Ed here.

Same, same, same....seems he is fond of 'dirty water' these days.

Do you think his daughters are helping him write lyrics?

"I m the proof" isnt bad. So, i like it. But these 2 songs are average...

Think about first 4 albums. What s the average songs in these albums?

"we walk in the dreams" or "top" or "graze" maybe... (In my op, these arent average, just weeker than others)

now, think about outtakes, "hold me up", or "deeper", "mallrats"...

What is average? if "top" is average and "deeper" is an outtake, The Garden EP is SH*T! angry.gif

Alright, we've heard 3 of the 5 new songs on this EP.

I'm The Proof - Corny and dull

Rise - Not to bad. Sounds like some of the better stuff on Alive. Would fit right on that album.

The Garden - Another lyrical retread with "dirty water" or just water in general. It's not horrible but it's a slow song with no memorable moments. It just sounds boring.

When Ed was asked in retrospect about SFBM he said "I should have put a few more rock songs on there".

This is a 5 song EP with remixes. At this point I'd say he should have taken his own prior advice.

Tough listen. Good melody, but my aunts and my grandparents could dance their slow on this. Ed tries to use all the easy chord structures (em-c-g-d) in that case and makemsomething catchy with them. He's trying too much. The ooos ooos at the end is the worst thing I heard from him since Call me a fool.

Worst of the 3 songs so far.

if I could pretend I'd never heard anything he's ever done, I'd say this is a solid Christian style pop song.

that said, it's not horrible. I probably like it better than I'm the proof. its flat overall... needs to go somewhere. lyrically, its on par with what he's been up to.

I really hope he plays all the new songs acoustically. without the bland music, I have a feeling this is a much stronger song.
It's funny, I still like his voice (it's not what it was, but he's still Ed), but without the right musicians - he needs to just stick to the guitar, and maybe that girl on the percusson box thing.

in fairness, I only listened through once. I have a feeling I will like it more after more spins, and as I ignore the music more.

*edit - after more than a dozen spins, its not the music I dislike as the too many layers of his own background vocals. its too much clutter. even the oohs at the end wouldn't bother me if it was just one layer.
a stripped down version should be very nice. I genuinely hope he plays it.
its true, I like it more and more as I listen. Rise is still better though. lyrically, this, Rise, Zion are some of his better offerings (its just difficult because I have to try not to compare him to the Ed eaten by wolves). this song feels like he was trying for the same kind of them as The Distance. maybe I'm an idiot. that's how it feels lyrically. well, like he wanted it to be that. TDTH was the last complete album for ed, lyrically, imho.

I have to say though "drive it like you stole through primoridal whatever of the soul" gave me pause. not sure if I like it or I hate it.

...and in comic sans. You're like the epitome of someone who just discovered the internet last week.

As for the song, I got 1:20 into it before I had to shut it off. It was bereft of creativity and just embarrassing. Ed is almost like a caricature of himself now. He has about 10-15 words in his vocabulary which are like his "key" words - water, child, desert, light etc... and its like he just throws them into a sentence jumbler which makes new phrases for him then he just arranges them until they rhyme. Kind of reminds me of South Park's take on how Family Guy write their episodes.

It's just the same old shit over and over from a guy who used to just beam with creativity, how different he was from MJ to TC to SS to TDTH to V even .. ugh.

Yeah, lyrically he's so out of ideas and bereft of depth that it's just not even funny. The song, in the context of SFBM/Alive is fine, if not all that memorable. In the wider context of Live it's American Idol-esque pop-rock which is a MASSIVE step down. But he made that step down a long time ago so it shouldn't be any surprise.

I don't know. I don't care for it, but he's done worse. But yeah, shit lyrics.

Well, he has added one word to his vocab - 'dirty'. Give him some credit.
