The start sounds like a song that is on Alive (I think? - something I've heard before from him anyway) and I have no desire to listen to anymore of it.

I think he pinched Pokey's lyrics.

Thanks for putting Photography up OTD. You can really hear the difference between natural and manufactured when you compare to this Garden song.

What an auwful name, The Garden!!! Sorry, had to get that out of my system...

I kinda like how Ed's voice kicks in, like he tries to sound a little, little, little bit edgier this time. However, overall it's not really something different en musically it's the same old story. Good point on the drums indeed, like it's not even played by a band at all.

Btw, someone here mentioning DWLF being on the EP, is that true? Would like to hear an actual mastered version of that song.

Just trying to give facts to something natural and organic to something that is not.

I could listen to it from start to finish, so I didn't hate it.
And I agree with DQ, Ed's voice itself sounds good.
However I much prefer natural and organic....yes indeed, can't go wrong with natural and organic.

He's not a band now. He should to use his acoustic guitar in his records. He still trying being like Live. I think Zion, I'm the proof were good songs but they need acoustic sounds...

I don't know...

not all bad... It has a production similar to Grace. But I'm concerned about the live performance of this song. He can't sing Rise at that tone in concert. He tries to sing higher in recordings than what he can do in shows. It irritates me whoever the artist is. He had to sing Grace lower in concert after a while and Rise looks even harder to sing. Lyrics are blahhhhh. It is a normal pop song that we've heard by other artists plenty of times. Nothing new here, safe safe ground.

was just about to say i dont mind Rise, sounds like the edgier stuff on Alive, but then i listened to photograph again and realised that there is a big difference between ok, and great!

Agreed. Decent but not photographish

just compare with this masterpiece gem which we got in 2009

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuFYtElDVZs

Photograph is a great song, the other song we got in 2009 I didn't care for at all(I even forgot the name of it), but I always liked Photograph.

I think Rise is a really good pop/rock song. I'm really excited for the EP and accompanying tour, so this was a nice surprise after a long week of work.

I think Mall Rat is wonderful in its own right, different register. Just to call a spade a spade the rhythm section on those 2 songs is vintage collaborative Live

Mall Rat is a little bit Ligthning Crashes'ish in the chorus, but it is still a fantastic song. I like it better than Photograph, which is too rattlesnake'ish in the verse. Like OTD said, very collaborative Live there.

After 2-3 spins, Rise is better than most of Alive, probably because the production is equivalent to Grace.

I remember seeing a video of this live and at the end he just explodes into cursing for no reason. I actually kind of liked it but it totally doesn't fit his image. Someone should post the video to this thread, I am too lazy to dig for it.

EDIT: Okay, I found it:
