Damned internet. in 80s you would find an ad in a newspaper and would jump up and down if you see a familiar face of your fave musician... but now...

true.

it's also true that in the day we had good music on the radio.
now, if it wasn't for the internet, no one would know good bands exist anymore, barring a few exceptions.

double-edged sword, I think they say.

I agree with Poke - it's less me whining about the new cd (I mean, I want it, bring it, I'm ready, but I'm not demanding... it'll come when it's done) but more me being confused about the website/competition to nowhere and such.

and they *do* actually owe something to any paid homespun subscriber...

QUOTE(LiveRoCkS77 @ Sep 12 2012, 11:26 pm) *

Sorry I had to stop back by and be the bearer of bad news somewhat, but I think most of you misunderstand what PD is saying here.......and nowhere did he say that they were FINISHING THE ALBUM.

He said they are finishing what they started, which I'm pretty sure means laying down the vocals to the music for the first five tracks off the new album. They aren't finishing, nor are they finished with all songs from the new album.

Don't expect this album to be released anytime soon. I know it's frustrating because we are all anxious for the new material, but we have to maintain some fucking dignity here. Show some respect as TRUE fans and stop fucking demanding that these guys owe us ANYTHING. When the music is done, and they're ready, we will get it. They're the ones sacrificing their time away from their families and everything else, so we need to respect that they're trying to give us what we want.

It strikes me as DISGUSTINGLY selfish to hear so many fuckheads saying that they owe us more in the form of: updates, snippets, communication, exact timeframes, plans for promotion, reasoning for website timing...and lack of heart and soul going into it. I mean, it's getting fucking ridiculous and petty.

Do you people really think that these guys don't have their own lives?? That it might be really fucking hard for them to juggle everything, including missing out on their childrens lives, to give fans what they want?? Only to hear shit like this all the time??

I know they have thick skin, but in the end? They are people just like us.

My statement here and now is this:

Instead of being demanding, petty and selfish....how bout being supportive, respectful and considerate. A true fan, I'm utterly fucking certain, would choose the latter, I know I certainly do.

I really wasn't going to post anymore but I wanted to get this straight....we buy their albums, buy their merch, join Homespun, sign up for their newsletter, follow them on Twitter and facebook, go to their shows, spread the word about their music (TGF), stick with them through 3 shitty albums and the hiatus, and are fuckheads when we want an update on what they are doing now that they are finally back? Or when we ask about promises they made? Or hope for a snippet from Live because we haven't heard REAL Live for 10 years?

We have supported Live for 2 decades. Like I said, we stuck with them through the "hiatus" and three shitty albums. And you are coming on here calling us demanding, petty, and selfish? And asking us to be SUPPORTIVE? What in the fuck do you think we are if we are all still here and this interested in Live?

Ever wonder why we want them to release videos or snippets? Because that is what you do now when you want people to hear about your band. The internet is free viral marketing. We are wanting all these things because we want to spread the word because we want Live to have the best chance to be successful.

I want their website to NOT be a giant advertisement for Viagra or whatever the fuck is being spammed on it because that is fucking embarassing. I want clips of their sessions or songs because shit like that gets tweeted and retweeted and "Liked" and suddenly a few thousand MORE people know that Live is back. Hell, take 10 minutes and record a snippet of Shinn singing Overcome on a fucking smartphone and tweet it out two days ago and bam, great marketing move. 9/11 and Overcome. I bet that shit would have gotten retweeted 10,000 times. Give it a nice #neverforget, put the website at the bottom (well maybe not because it is a joke) and boom, easy publicity. People go to the website, hear the 4 tracks and now follow the F4L Twitter page. You got them. But they won't do any of that shit and it is frustrating because we, the die hard fans (fuckheads) that are STILL here after all this time, want them to be great and to be heard by an audience larger than the "they are the band that sings Lightining Crashes" crowd.

I mean even these few NEW updates (two short song clips, studio photos) could have been tweeted. I would have retweeted them. I only have 56 followers but two of them are Live fans and they both have 61 and 37 followers so instantly any update about Live hits 150 new people. I'd make my wife retweet it and that is another 190 people. And if some of the people who saw the retweet then retweeted it? The F4L twitter account hasn't tweeted anything for 61 days. For the record, I have bought CD's of probably 15-20 bands that someone has tweeted a clip of and I liked it. There are for sure four of those bands I follow very closely now.

Also, you have to remember, many of us asking these questions don't know the band. We don't get inside info. It is easy for you or OTD to tell us to be patient when you have actually HEARD the new songs. What have I heard or seen? Up until these nice studio pictures all I had been exposed to was a poor quality 10 second clip, an obscure update from PD, and you clarifying the obscure update while calling people petty, selfish fuckheads.

It is like we are both starving, but you get to go into the kitchen now and then and eat and I get to stand outside not knowing when someone will throw me a bagel and then being called a petty, selfish fuckhead when I ask when I am going to get that corndog you promised me 6 months ago. I'm starving, I want that corndog.

Whatever. /rant

Have to agree with World Dreamer 100%.

This is the information age. If you can't keep up with it, then you're doing something wrong. Bands are made or forgotten based on their interaction through social media. You want to be successful, have a great social media footprint.

Yep. We have waited a long ass time for this. I certainly don't consider anyone here demanding or unfair in wanting to know or hear what's going on in the studio.

I know a handful of us have access to some of the goodies be it direct or indirect relation to the band but 99% of us are not. Calling us petty and demanding is certainly no going to help the cause.

And the worst part is, if I am not mistaken, LiveRoCkS77 knows the band or has access to some degree?

I really hope his post is not a reflection of how Live feels.

It is only about the things they have promised and not fulfilled. If it wasn't for that, I think the complaints would diminish. A lot of things were supposed to see the light of day, churchbox sessions, the website not maintained, and others and don't forget the hype with the last 3 records followed by the disappointments of hearing these painful recordings for the most part. Like some others said, the fact that we are still here shows alot of support to the band. I'm also with Worldreamer on this one, but I don't mind not hearing anything before the real precious, this new record!

From what I can gather from the past, I believe our beloved LiveRocks is pretty close to Jimmy Lang who is obviously close to the band since he's allowed in the studio to take photos of their sessions hehe.gif

I dont think anyone truly believes they owe us anything, but I think they would be pretty happy they even have any fans left at all. A few words by 5 people on a msg board cant really bother anyone....

can it?

Maybe instead doing things like finding and paying for a babysitter, driving 4 hours to a concert, paying for a hotel room, paying for food, paying for concert tickets, and driving 4 hours home I will just skip the concerts and skip buying their albums and merchandise and just download shit illegally.

Since what I am currently doing (going to shows, buying albums, merchandise, memberships etc) and occasionally wondering how the band is progressing and hoping for a sound clip or something qualifies me as a greedy fuckhead.

Then people won't be so upset, right? They may be wondering where the hell all their fans went but at least they won't be "bothered".
