i cannot disagree with that. CT predicted it and it's terrible they couldn't stop it. Sad thing is I am sure LM could take LID and release if the band wanted it. HEaven could have been released later.

QUOTE(SJN1279 @ Jun 11 2012, 11:03 pm) *

Heaven was a major hit for the band worldwide, and the BOP tour that coincided with the single was a sell out in the majority of cities. Heaven is also actually one of my favorite LIVE songs and it holds up today IMHO. Just because you don't like it, doesn't make it a "shitty song".

I knew you'd bring up what a major hit it was. You said it was one of your favorite songs, that's awesome, we know your taste, we don't agree with it, but that's fair enough. You can say you like it, and you like it because.... well you didn't say WHY you like it, you just like it.

However, you then go in quoting its charting success as some kind of "proof" that its good? That's the SJN we all know and hate! You forget that the vast majority of us that great up with Live in the 90s didn't want this sort of charting success, it doesn't suit Live, it doesn't represent what Live is. It represents what Ed wanted Live to be. Heaven charting well in the AC format doesn't impress any of us, it's strengthening our argument. We wanted songs that the AC format wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole.
Like Funky said, it's not that everything in that format is bad, you can have good music there, but for Live - it just wasn't what they were meant for.

So when you say that because we don't like it doesn't make it a shitty song, the same should be said that just because you like it doesn't make it a great song. So, what is it?
And if you're pointing to the charts as some kind of indicator of just how good it is, and that it isn't a shitty song, does that mean every song that Live made that didn't chart was a shitty song?

I've touted this in a few other older threads.

http://www.mediafire.com/?deun4mdnkxg
the link above is proof how it would have been received by fans (in this case someone not a fan of Live)

I always laugh at this exchange:

Ed: So right now the title is Birds of Pray, but, p-r-a-y
DJ: .... whoa.

We all knew Live was completely f'd when this song wasn't released as a single.

Outside of it and Lighthouse this album is garbage. I would argue at least though that Heaven has a decent enough hook and that helped it be a minor hit. It wasn't a Live song though.

Like I Do was a good song. Could have been the only single on the album. The rest pretty much sucks but I've always liked Sweet Release.

The first time I heard LID it blew my mind. I remember thinking Live is back and this will be a monster single. It was also the first tune I heard off of BOP. The rest is history and at the time I was beyond confused at "their" choice of singles with BOP. Moronic (though now I know why) and it still pisses me off. Top to bottom BOP is a solid album but the direction they went with Heaven and Run Away makes me scratch my head. Jesus...

I just listened to Like I Do for the first time in quite a while. I now feel like it would have fit perfectly on TDTH right after Voodoo Lady.

Reading this thread made me remember how much I liked that song. I was so confused back in the day about why LID wasn't a single, and why Heaven was. I was seriously baffled.

Knowing what we do now, it makes sense, but after V I was desperate for a return to form, and when Heaven and Run Away were the singles - I was quite confused and not yet ready to admit Live was done.

But yeah, LID rocks. In fact, I'm going to go listen to it now.

Ok, so I did just listen to it on iTunes, then wandered over to Ed's new stuff. Yes, we all know what it sounds like, BUT...

every so often he'll hit those old Ed notes or show that old passion... and it's like - it's GOTTA be in there somewhere. That thing that made him awesome. I keep hearing it - it's GOT to be in there somewhere - WTF? Let it out!

Maybe it's incubating - maybe it's buried deep down under a lot of pressure. You never know. After 10 years of hoping, though, nobody wants to down that rabbit hole again.

Sorry to be a thread-stealer. LID is awesome smile.gif

I assume the label was trying to broaden the appeal of the band into adult contemporary since they were getting older. It's common knowledge that Live as we all love it owes at least part of its demise to bad label management.

So true. Birds of Pray not a great album. I remember the 1st time I listened to it, I hated it! I was in my office and it was going to be one of those crazy all night shifts. I went Down to AArons records (Non Existant now) to buy some tunes. I didn't even know they released a new album? Went back put it into my stereo all excited and shit. All of sudden "Heaven" comes on... WTF! fellow employees were like "what are you listening to?" (not asking in the good way either.) I said +LIVE+ . "Really this isn't +LIVE+? this sucks (a few of them started going down LIVE's hits some of them trying to remember the lyrics and sing them sad.gif ) . They Made me turn it off. I was plenty bummed out, I actually felt like shit.

Later in the morning driving home I put it into my car stereo and listening to it and I was dude "really?" I had a 1/2hr drive so i was going to get pretty far into the cd. Suddenly I heard "Life Marches On" and I was like "thats it this goes out the window!", suddenly the next track came on "Like I do" and I told myself if this song sucks I'm really going to through this out here on the 118 fwy!

LID is one of my favorite LIVE songs. I always rock out to it when it comes on. It actually made me give BOP a few more listens. BOP is not a great album but as a whole its not horrible. I would take another BOP over V and SFBM any day.

Chad Taylor just acts cool. Ed just TRIES TO act cool. Instead of focussing on the singing!

I know there are detractors of BOP, but as a whole the album is very good. It probably would've been better had Jerry Harrison been the producer, but it is what it is. Everytime I..., Lighthouse, River Town, Out To Dry, She, and Like I Do were all good stuff to me.

Yeah, interesting point: what would BoP have been with Jerry producing it? Some will argue it's basically bad with Ed writing almost everything, but I think it defenately had potention. It got a quite 'clean' sound, but that could have been different with Jerry.
