really happy to read that...because during the period TC-----SS-----TDTH------V , I was wondering if the guy really practiced to get better. I was concluding to a no, because the guitar wasn't getting that better, except the tone on SS. And as a musician, you should aim at getting better at what you do. So I always had that little thing in my head during their career even if it is my favorite band. CT kinds of forgiving himself to me the way he writes in blogs, the way he expresses hisself. The long blog about the recording of the albums is pure gold.

That blog told you about how he was feeling when the creative process was being stifled. He checked out, and forgivingly was honest about it. This is all you need to know how Live staggered to a halt. By SFBM he played a few notes, then the producer replayed his stuff for the record. How would you feel when a band dynamic was upset for one's gain or direction against the wishes of the others. I'll leave it at that. By the time TGF started to form, the commuication and interaction of really immersing yourself in the music was new and fresh, it allows the musician to learn and grow again, Having Sean around really helped CT open up. I saw this first hand for the first time on the tour bus. They were practicing the Bruce Springsteen song Born to Run so they could insert it into Guilty Fever's bridge. You can find some videos around here or gracious fans. CT soloed a bit on the TGF tour and he's dabbling in expanding songs to have them flow better!

I know it is hard to judge his work post V since the complete band was castrated. With Hennesy in I guess there is no pressure else than to compose great music. But I'm sure they have it right.

I keep forgetting about Hennesy. I really, really hope he can tour with them and also contributed on the album.

-I'd like to hear CT give us one more solo like Honest Man. I know he doesn't like solo'ing, but that solo is awesome and perfect for the song, just like his Graze solo.

Sean Hennesy played that solo (as well as the other TGF solos), even if you can see CT in the music video.
Sean Hennesy also performed all the solos while on stage (saw them live in Cologne last year).

Chad's only attempt at soloing that night (during "Guilty Fever") was weak. But I don't blame the guy for that as he's more of a 'killer-riffs' guitarist.

If you have the Cologne bootleg, you can listen to the song : Chad and Sean are doing a kind of 'Question/Answer" solo and you can easily hear the skill difference between the two.

You can expect a Graze-like solo performance on the next album, but don't expect something technical like in Honest Man.

go to the 2 minute mark here and see what I am talking about. This one is quite new for CT. Excuse the muffled sound. Bad pda phone mic. This reminds me of a david gilmour type of excursion.

Actually, you are completely incorrect. smile.gif Honest Man is the only solo that CT performed on the TGF album, and it is totally a CT style solo. It isn't technical at all but has a really unique sound. Hennessy is a much better technical guitarist and it is totally obvious that that isn't his solo. It's way too muddy to be SH work. smile.gif

Also, CT is on record saying he wrote that solo, but it's the only one on the record.

Has there been any confirmation that Hennessy performed on the album?

One of the reasons I think CS is a great fit is that his instrumental work is never technical, it relies more on dynamics and parts that fit together. I believe he performed most of the instruments on the EIE album (except drums?) so you can hear that there. He's a great fit for the band instrumentally so I hope he does some good stuff there on this album!

Most of mine have been covered really ... I really agree with some more slap bass stuff, some real old school MJ era style bass playing. Some real jamming breakdowns of the rhythm section. But really, just an album that I can still listen to and enjoy just as much 21 years from now like I can do with MJ.

It'll be interesting to see if I connect with the lyrics enough for the album to have that kind of an impact. That is still the biggest question mark to me, because as much as I love CS' music his lyrics have never grabbed me.

I liked the lyrics on the TGF album and I know the band contributed, so hopefully that'll make for some really fantastic stuff this go around.

Yeah the lyrics are the big unknown ... I mean I'm confident they won't be cringe worthy like Ed's are now, and based on Shinn's past stuff, I can't see them being bad, but connecting to them is the right term, that'll remain to be seen. You're right, his lyrics have never been bad, but from the stuff I do like about his previous work it's the overall complete package that I like as opposed to being able to sit and dissect the lyrics and have them have a profound impact on me.

As long as Ed doesn't come anywhere near the song writing and recording process I think we're good to go.
