I do believe that SING could have benn a huge hit in some radio formats, but because of the long solos it became impossible. But Bravo to the guys to stick with their plan. Sing is a marvelous song the way it is. Hennesy is great on that one.

Even Before Honest man, I think that Tredecim could also have been a great rock hit despite the weird verse structure. The chorus has a great hook and it gets stuck in your head for quite some time, even the casual listener that's for sure.

Sad truth. TGF is a prime example of the state of affairs in rock music today.

I do think Crying Time had the most crossover potential as a radio single from what I heard.

Appetite was a decent rock hard/classic rock single, but they didn't tour after its release. A huge problem they had was announcing a massive US tour without the fan support to back it up. They should have started with smaller tours and gradually expanded.

I think one thing that is overlooked in the TGF saga (as it is now) is CT's broken leg. By the time their tour ended Appetite was getting momentum on radio and crowds were getting bigger. Instead of being able to add more dates and keep going, they had to take a break for the leg to heal. That made all the difference as in that down time Candlebox got some offers and the rest is history. Them's the breaks... literally.

Appetite was a hell of a rock radio single. While Honest Man is a much better song, it wasn't catchy enough for rock radio. Appetite was a different ballgame.

I, for one, am hoping for more out of TGF. Candlebox' latest effort really didn't do anything for me, and I imagine TGF has some songs in the can that are off the charts. I assume they are saving them for a new album or a new tour at some point. If Live and Candlebox were to tour together it would be the perfect time, since TGF could even just play a short set to break up the show. They don't need a full on TGF tour if they do that.

So being able to add extra dates in December and January to keep momentum going wouldn't have helped? CT had to have surgery to get his leg fixed.

I really wish they would have just ran with the project. TGF had (and still has) tons of potential.

I know, I'd much rather hear KM front TGF than the newer, sappier Candlebox. Had they been able to secure a gig opening for a major touring act it really would have made things take off. I can imagine that that's a contractual nightmare but they really could have gotten some good exposure with rock fans.

Hopefully they'll give it another go.

Finally figured I should vote on this. While, I think the choices in the poll are a bit polar, I had to choose the "sucks" option. I don't think it sucks, I just don't think it's anything all that interesting. I honestly would rather the boys concentrate on their new effort with Live, than continue with TGF. I didn't like TGF for a couple main reasons: 1) I really don't like Candlebox. Mostly because of Kevin Martin's vocals. Nothing against the guy, I just don't care for his voice. 2) The music was a bit uninspired.

I think there is still a LOT of potential left in CCP, but I don't think it has really come out since Secret Samadhi. I'm hoping that now is the right time. Dropping Ed was a good move for them, and while they had that opportunity with TGF, I think they can now go back to explore what Live meant to them, and pickup where they left off, musically and emotionally (which was a long time ago).

I don't listen to much (for lack of a better term) radio rock. Yet, I still listen to MJ, TC and SS with somewhat regular frequency. I don't think it's nostalgia - I think the albums are just that original and good. I hope their new efforts with Shinn capture that originality.

To each their own of course, but did you catch one of the live shows? "Uninspired" is the last word I'd use. Those guys were incredibly inspired when they made and performed that album, it was very evident from watching them and talking with them about it.

Maybe unoriginal would be a better word choice? That would certainly be fair. Or perhaps that the album wasn't as raw as it should have been (the overall sound was more radio rock than raw, classic, grunge).
