Seriously, you do realize that people get misquoted all the time in interviews...right? Maybe it didn't happen here, but I just gave you a quote from the same time where Ed was quoted as saying something completely different. So, it's definitely a possibility.

Actually how is the quote from the article I posted a lie by Ed. Did he not write most of the music for the past 4 albums ranging over 10 years? I would consider 10 years to be "years and years". You may not like it, but that's a fact.

Ed might have written the basics of the songs for TDTH and V, but there was a whole lot more going on in the other instruments in the songs on those albums. I don't think him saying he wrote the songs would be incorrect, but the music? Not really the same. For BOP and SFBM I see your point.

I just don't think Ed wants to come out and say "I wrote all the music for all the Live albums that completely tanked" so he is just being really vague. Either way, it just makes me feel more confident that we won't see these guys playing together again for awhile, it's obvious his attitude towards Live hasn't really changed.

I honestly hate even arguing about this because I feel like I'm downplaying the contributions of CT, CG, and Pat, which I don't want to do. I have nothing but the utmost respect for them as people and musicians. I'm just going by the credits on the album. Even on TDTH, most of the music was credited solely to Ed. Obviously, I don't think Ed wrote all of the music for Live...even on the later albums I doubt he wrote the parts for CG and Pat. But him saying he wrote 90% of the music for Live for years and years, is not totally inaccurate. I think it all depends on what you consider it to actually means to write music.

Songwriting credit typically goes to the individual who writes the lyrics, melody, and the chord progressions. That can be called the "lyrics and music" but, for example, Chad's guitar solos are melodic enough that they could be copywritten, so I would consider those to be a part of the music.

What Ed is saying is that he was the genesis of the lyrics and melodies of those songs, it isn't inaccurate but it doesn't help the case against him that he is a self-inflating jackass.

Some of it's semantics for sure, but even if we don't agree on that, I think it's pretty obvious why some people would take issue with these interview quotes.

I wish he played some more of his solo stuff. That's what I really want to hear!
