Never understood the fascination with .flac. I do everything .mp3 because I don't have a giant harddrive nor do I have the time to sit around for such a large file.

From a personal perspective, I like to start with lossless files that I can convert myself to whatever mp3 quality I need (iPod, car, USB stick...).

Doing this way, I only store music in FLAC so I can always start from an optimal sounding source and share the same optimal source with people on the internet.

Each of us has different ears and different playback systems. From my own experience, I can tell you I'm able to hear compression artifacts when listening to a 160kbps mp3. Once it's a 192kbps mp3, I can't really tell the difference compared to a lossless source. Sometimes with audience recordings or very compressed radio or TV broadcasts.

Live tapes are supposed to be (are, most of the time) of a lesser quality than professional studio recordings. That's why people usually look for a lossless source when it's about bootlegs.
A bad mp3 compression can really decrease sound quality and ruin playback experience.

I can remember having a really hard time finding lossless versions of 'biblical' shows like Riverside Theater '97 or Summersounds '98.
Before that, shitty mp3 versions were widely circulating. Crowd noise and cymbals sounded like the sound was recorded underwater, there were glitches and pops between tracks (which is horrible when you're listening to a concert).

In addition, each time you're re-compressing an mp3 removes even more audio information.
That's also why live tapers are giving information about their tapes lineage (transfert, generation, and so on...).

Think about how crappy would such the following lineage sound :
DAT master > wav > CD-R > mp3 > CD-R > mp3 > CD-R > mp3 > CD-R > mp3.

I can tell you an A- DAT master can quickly become a C- mp3 source. uhoh.gif

Thank you Dangum. I'll stop posting shows for now.
We might get one or two more from some Dime users within the next few days/weeks.

At the beginning of September I'll start posting again, hoping to grab more interest.

I'm not expecting that much. I got 10 "Mailer Daemon" already.

A very small amount of lists were still updated. Most of those people are certainly retired from the trading circle.

Is there a show you'd like to see sharing from the following :

1997-02-21 Toronto ON
1999-10-24 Las Vegas NV
2000-04-27 - Stevens Point, WI
2004-05-22 - Charlotte,NC
2004-12-13 - Rotterdam NL1
2006-02-15 - Toronto ON
2006-10-20 - Sydney Australia
2006-10-23 Adelaide, Australia
2007-03-24
2007-04-13
2007-04-14
2007-04-15
2007-08-04 - Indianapolis In
2007-10-07 - Denver, CO

And BTW, I know a nice sounding recording of this show exists : March 26, 2003 - Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY, USA.

Can anyone share a pure sourced version of it ?
(or at least an mp3 version if no one has a pure sourced copy ?)

Thanks.

Thatsme, I'm looking for some details of a show, maybe you know it:

It's displayed as ''Live in Australia 2006'' on my hard drive, but i don't exactly know from which show it is.

Here are the first 10 songs of the setlist:

1. Mystery
2. The River
3. All Over You
4. Rattlesnake
5. Shit Towne
6. Sofia
7. Mirror Song
8. I Walk The Line
9. White, Discussion
10. Iris

Do you (or someone else) know the date and location from this show? I only know it's in 2006 and in Australia.
