You're in over your head.

As are you, especially if you are under the notion that LIVE with a very average replacement singer is going to break into mainstream music.

"Why You Should Be Here: Ed Kowalczyk, the singer and songwriting force behind the multi-platinum rock band LIVE, delivers one of the most dynamic and powerful performances of his career in this unique unplugged performance. With over 20 million albums sold worldwide, Live is one of the most successful and enduring alternative rock bands of the last twenty years."

Go solo or go home, mofo. If you're such a force why can't you make it on your name alone, Mr. I Alone?

there you go, This is one of the many infractions. Can't argue with facts. Misstatements everywhere. Remember the Canada billing of 'Live' and not Ed. Confusion must have led to that, or no advance discussion.

If it was a problem, why did they wait 3 years to file? Looks like another half assed money grab.

Very likely the timing of this is because they will be releasing a new album as Live, and touring as Live. Also, the lawsuit may not even be something CCP want to do but the lawyers for the band would absolutely insist on it. Basically they have to protect their copyright from anyone...original lead singer or not. If they do not, they make it harder to defend against any other future infringements. I.E. if they don't sue for this, then any other future infringements would use Ed's infringement as an example of copyright not being protected.

Also, lets not act like Ed is the king of mainstream media. I live about an hour away from York and when Live was popular it was a big deal even where I live...now you wouldn't even know any of them even existed. Sad, but true.

Good point Jim, but recently they are re-engaging the PA communuties as part of their other business ventures to give back. It's been in the local media there and in the Lehigh Valley news. Live returning will bring some of the buzz back. This story in mainstream media may also do so too. As for going back to the level of 1995, never getting there. It's about moving forward and carrying on the music they way it was intended to, with a revisited focus to the old days of collaboration. A majority of the fans will love to see that.

I don't fault Ed at all for using the +LIVE+ name to the degree of that he was a founding member or something in his artist bio. Even if his promotional material made he clear he was Ed Kowalczyk, formerly of +LIVE+.

People do this kind of thing all the time. Think of every washed up sitcom actor that still uses their old show when they appear at Uncle Funny's Laugh Shack or whatever rinky dink comedy club they're performing at. It helps sell tickets - which helps both the artist and the venue.

What bugs me though is for him to try and bill himself like he's still a part of the band. That's completely disingenuous.

Well this is certainly something! I say he deserves it, from all accounts Ed was a shitheel for years in Live and it's time to eat humble pie. No sympathy for him.
Nick, you are taking this pretty personally it seems! Getting a bit angry there fella!

How about proving that Ed using the LIVE name caused CCP any financial damages? Since CCP did not tour at all as LIVE the last 3 years since the split, it will be extremely hard to prove.

By touring as Live with his poor renditions of the hits and terrible new material, he continuously lowered the value of Live, an entity which he no longer owned. Can't prove that, but I reckon it's true.

Because you all obsess over silly nonsense like lawsuits. I'm glad I'm an Ed fan because I've gotten to see concerts on a consistent basis since the split. If I was in CCP's camp, I'd be saving money, but having a lot less fun.

Lol lawsuits are so silly. The thing is, you've had more concerts but his music and renditions are so poor. He is void of depth and integrity. CCP have retained this musical depth and integrity, crafting a brilliant album. Less shows, sure, but higher quality all aroun. Quality > Quantity.

I know we could argue the above is subjective, but we'd be wrong. Is just the truth tbh.

And yet the name Live is very much in use... by the very people who birthed it. But I guess a house can only be lived in by the original 4 occupants who lived there. I mean, you have to tear down the house if one of the occupants moves out because you can't have a house with only 3 people living in it, right?

I'm sure the housing industry is thrilled with its decision not to operate by that logic... whistle.gif

Ok... but don't you see how contradictory your post is? You coming to this forum to say that "Live is dead" to you is akin to you going to a concert of Live... just to tell those attending that you will never go to a concert of Live.

Wasted energy on your part, IMO.

I am only on the second page of the discussion, but one thing came to my mind. Lately I have been seeing billboards in my city saying (this very way, but in Russian, of course)

AC/DC
the ex-drummer of, Chris Slade

Wow, I even found the ad itself!

Looks slightly different, but whatever

IPB Image

And another one that gives me shivers
IPB Image

The small text says: 40 years without Jim Morrisson.

Shit, how awful can it get! Completely wrong.

I love how Nick uses the fact that he is going to 2 Ed shows this week as some kind of induction of... What exactly? I'm going to 2 shows this week too but they're of other bands because music can exist outside of this sphere. The 2 Ed shows will just be exactly the same anyways so you're really only seeing 1 show... That you have already seen before.
