the PSU scandal pales in comparison to the Catholic Church and their actions over the past several hundred years

It does, but I think what makes PSU unique is that religious scandal is so not-new. It's ridiculously prevalent. Scandal is also prevalent in college football, but not usually scandal of this nature. I think it's shedding a light on the unhealthy perspective people take on what is ENTERTAINMENT.

That is just disgusting.

Don't get me wrong - the religious stuff is freaking awful, but religious people doing awful stuff just isn't new or even interesting anymore. I hate the catholic church for the shit they pulled but that wasn't a new thing, just an affirmation.

The fact that we are even comparing the two things shows how messed up this situation is. For some PSU football was their religion! Ugh.

Anthropologists have known the connection between religion and sports for years. They both give people a sense of solidarity and encourage us not to kill each other... unless they worship a different god or sports team. They can't disband the football team for two years because it would be like killing a religion (plus there's money involved).

This is what happens when people cling to strongly held beliefs about something. Call it fundamentalism or whatever you want to call it. Whether it be football or religion or the people still clinging to their strongly held beliefs about Joe Paterno or their Bishop. Yes, perhaps power corrupts. But strong beliefs blind people.

This board is a victim of this. People like OTD and nick believe so much in their side that they cannot see reality. I was the first to Nay-say on the clip of live's new original work (I wasn't impressed) but everyone in that thread is treating it like it is fucking gold. Nick does the same thing with Ed's new stuff. The same goes for American politics. We all need to take a lesson from MJ and not be a divided crowd. We need to be able to think critically about what we are fed.

I listened with an objective ear, Badman and I liked what I heard.
I'm not the type to yay something just because everyone else does.
I don't think it's fair to assume that everyone or anyone in that thread was yes ma'am-ing.

BAdman, did I say anything to your not liking the track? I didn't jump down your throat. Don't lump me in with yodaboy. I can see reality way more than SJN. Believe me. THe 15 second track isn't enough to make a full assessment. I don't argue with many posters around here and let them voice their opinions, san 3 people.

I would argue the clip is gold compared to SFBM. At the risk of sounding like Live, that clip is like a giant, ice cold bottle of water after walking across the desert.

Or an ice cold beer in my case smile.gif

The entire University should be made to suffer greatly. A once proud man made the biggest mistake, along with a lot of others, they just need a poster boy, and human nature will always pin it on someone who can't defend himself. But that said, everyone's hands are dirty.

I'm surprised no one is talking about this... The NCAA has dealt out a harsh punishment to Penn state. Read it here:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/foo...ions/56427630/1

I can summarize it as:

1) Joe Paterno loses 111 wins thus destroying his legacy as the greatest coach of penn state.
2) the university will be fined 60 million dollars to build a program to fight child abuse
3) No Bowl games for 4 years.
4) Loss of millions in scholarships

Penn State has agreed to the punishment.

What do you guys think? Is this a fair punishment and will this help to "rebuild the athletic culture" as the article hopes it will?
