How much do you know about their investments? I'm guessing you read some articles so that makes you very knowledgeable of their involvement and risk level. If you know more please share.

Let me explain for Nick. It's not just No Ed no Live, it's no Ed no lives. They can't function without him. Anything they do is a failure. That's his stance at least. He has degraded everything they do to the point that they are complete failures in life without Ed.

I think Nick should look in the mirror if he wants to see failure.

I think this is really cool of CCP. Between their urban revitilization projects, Aurora (and brining movie productions to Lancaster County), Questionable Entertainment, Think Loud, support for the arts, support of local bands, The Gracious Few, Live, support of charities, and participation in seminars for upstart musicians and music entrepreneurs (have I missed anything?), CCP has really established a proven track record of caring about their community and truly believing in the possibility of growth and potential in the York and Lancaster area. They have stayed in the area. They invest in the area. They support the area. And they put their money where their mouth is.

The idea of this studio seems like a cool idea for a creative incubator where local bands or out of area bands can come to York, stay there and create music there, all in one spot. Like a tourist industry, when artists come to stay and work in York, it will bring money to the region, which will in turn support restaurants, gas stations, etc. with the multiplier effect. I am sure that there is municipal grants and tax credits involved and I think that it is probably a smart business decision. I bet it is well-structured, with investors beyond CCP, and the risk and recourse to the investors is probably small if anything. It probably represents vertical integration - in the sense that CCP can use the studio for their own recording, rather than spend money elsewhere to do it.

This is also probably a move that should send a message to Live fans that CCP are serious about recording music and staying relevant in the recording industry for the long haul.

That, or they're failures for some mysterious reason that only one person seems to know. shrug.gif

They haven't recorded anything yet and their non-existant album is already better than Alive.

No, they are still very good at spending their money on risky, money losing investments.

Speaking of risky...want to know what was risky? Secret Samadhi.

Know what isn't risky? Everything Ed is doing now. He couldn't be more safe or boring.

I have no idea what the details of this are - and it is somewhat perverse for us to be ruminating about the structure of their business - but Nick had to make an issue out of it - and I think his point deserves to be smacked down. I am pretty sure that Nick knows how these things work, which is even more evidence that he just likes to stir crap to antagonize people. These kinds of deals are generally leveraged and set up through special purpose vehicles. I would guess that it involves municiple incentives and perhaps state and even Federal stimulus incentives. In order to qualify for that, I would guess that they needed a business plan and did feasibility studies and analyzed the need, the number of recording studios within a certain radius, etc. They are not unfamiliar with the industry, nor are they without contacts. Recording studios are generally booked with waiting lists, and they are expensive. Not to mention, this is cool! Jack White did this with Third Man in Nashville. In fact, I think it would be cool if think Loud turned part of this project into a record store, live music lounge and memorabelia palace. Here is the description of Third Man from their website: "Third Man Records in its current state contains a record store, record label offices, photo studio, dark room and live venue with analog recording booth." In Philadelphia and Wilmington Delaware you have World Cafe Live, which is very cool. Heck, if they did something like that, I would invest in it. I would also make regular treks to York to check it out.

Nuff said on this. I just want to know when I can get a studio tour. Once I master my new guitar (learned the chords for Lightning Crashes last night), I think I might even record a song for the love of my life.
