Now Nick has a place to go post.

Why would he leave here?
I mean he gets so much attention and all.

I think Im the Proof is Ed's proclamation that:

a) he's changed
b) he cannot go back and be angry Ed.
c) he's no longer the lead singer of Live
d) he's not interested in going back to Live

I won't say that this is objectively terrible because I suppose that someone might like this. But as for me - I personally think this is just awful. Beyond terrible. I mean, like, at the very rock bottom of my list of musical preferences. I don't even know how to describe why, because it is not that I dislike pop music or even gospel or Christian music. I like Maroon 5 and Cee Lo and some Katie Perry and stuff. I can listen to that. But what Ed is doing, just makes me react negatively. I would even think less of someone who told me they do like it. Hearing that, and seeing his hands waving over his head and pointing to the sky at the scripted moments in the song made me want to puke. And it reminded me of what he did with Live over the last few years he was in the band, with The Distance, Lightning Crashes, Wings, They Stood Up For Love, Sofia and other songs where he hit all of hius stage performance "marks" at the same exact points in each performance. There is no "there" there. And the lyrics that I could understand on that recording are laughable and seem like a inexperienced song-writer trying to write Sunday school hymns. I don't even know what more to say. This is just my opinion. I am not trying to start a fight or be rude to Ed or his fans. This is just me saying that I absolutely hate this. That guy used to be one of my heroes! How did we get here?!?!?!

I know exactly what you mean. I watched this and The Distance from the NC thread earlier and each time I caught myself saying "what the fuck am I doing watching this?" It's as if my body rejected it and made me quickly stop the video. I must have had the most disgusted look on my face. If anyone had seen me they would have wondered what the hell I was watching.

I actually like the song and the lyrics. It is a very uplifting tune, and you can tell that Ed believes in what he is singing. I''m looking forward to hearing the song at Mohegan.

THis is the source of our strife regarding Ed. The control / music issues aside.....he has done a 180 as an artist. Listening to the bootleg I just uploaded is why from that point on I was Live nuts........that first show I embarked on was with immense anticipation after serveral years of becoming a fan. The crashing cords and abrasive tone and texture totally consumed me from a fan standpoint. The finger in a lightsocket analogy fits here. I then became Live nuts....if we can coin that term. Seeing all the older footage from TC & MJ affirms my feelings I got from my first show......Magic!!! The combination of the 4 talents on the stage TOGETHER made it real. I assure you, the current total collaboration of CS & CC&P bring that back into the fore. Those that are fans of the soft poppy shit...... I can't fault you...but Ed changing the old Live standards to what it is today pisses me off a great deal. This is why we are mad about where things have went.

Don't you guys know that giving your opinion about Ed and his music is considered ganging up and being assholes to the Ed fans? Even though they never really give any reasoning behind why they are backing Ed and his music other than "I like it.", you guys, with your long posts and explanations are just jerks and want to start fights and are ganging up on the poor Ed fans.

/sarcasm

Thanks for posting. The lyrics sucks, but the song sounds better than the studio rehearsal. Maybe this song isn't bad at all (still fan of Ed, whatever he does). He's still a really good singer.

Let them flame me.... lol.gif

Had someone mail me and say they were removed from the EK Street team for giving a valid (but negative to the focus group) opinion......not shocked in the least bit. Someone on friendsoflive group.
Sounds like the pitchfork and piss SJN gave to the Live FB page last summer. nod.gif

I will state another "for instance" to demonstrate that I am not a closed-minded rock n' roll snob or CCP disciple. I like Barry Manilow (Nick I know that you have stated in the past that you like Barry Manilow too), in the sense that my wife has dragged me to see him quite a few times and consequently I listened to his greatest hits quite a few times on my ipod and in concert. She has made me do the same with Elton John. And I do have the Bee Gees on my ipod. And I like listening to all of that. It is not my favorite cup of tea. But can enjoy it.

I obviously liked Ed in Live. I even like Songs From Black Mountain. In fact, I like SFBM better than Birds of Pray and perhaps better than V.

I don't hate Ed or automatically react negatively to him. In fact, I think that I said that the YouTube clip of him sampling I'm The Proof sounded decent to me. I had high hopes for the song. And I still hold out hope that Ed will someday make music that I like again.

BUT - I think that Alive and this new song are just pitiful, horrible untalented pieces of garbage and Ed's stage performance and vocal style has become a joke. I think Ed should be ashamed to perform these in public and I feel ashamed to listen to them - although nothing will compare to how creepy and ashamed I felt after that Kings of Leon song he sang in that video clip and the awful Silent Night rendition he posted. I felt like I had just accidentally clicked on a perverted website and I wanted to shut down my web browser as quickly as possible. What Ed is doing now makes me want to re-evaluate my entire participatoin in this whole Live universe we hang around in because it undermines the legitimacy of the whole Live thing I have invested myself in and calls into question exactly whatever the heck I think I've been doing for the last 10 years. This guys is off his rocker (pun intended).

P.S. - I hate speaking so harshly about Ed. I will probably regret it later.

I know where you're coming from, Fish. I remember watching that video of him in like the zebra robe and shades, where he referred to himself as 'the EK'. I literally almost puked. Fucking sickeningly embarrassing. I'm legitimately embarrassed to be caught listening to his music or a live performance. It's embarrassing.
