Completely agree. Would an Ed concert be a better place? How about his Facebook page? FOL is a place filled with fans from all ages, locales, and other demographics.

True, for better of worse we have people like Nick here and the ever present hand of law and order in Bremang, so they may be the minority but Ed fans are represented here. If you were to hold a poll on Ed's FB page it would be ridiculous because only people that like him are going to be there. People complain because this place is over populated with people who think one way - wake up that is just the way it is. There's never going to be a perfect balance, one side is always going to be stronger than the other, if not then every election would end in a dead heat. More people just happen to feel this way on a mutual board that is not specifically for Ed or for TGF or whatever like their dedicated FB pages are. If you're in the minority and don't like it or feel its not fair - tough.

i paid $120 to see Foo Fighters and got kicked out of the stadium after their 3rd song or something for being "excessively intoxicated". Then we got asrrested. And my phone was confiscated as evidence. Havent been to a concert since apart from some free gigs

Talk about cheap. Why the hell do we pay so much in Australia shrug.gif

Probably because most of the worlds large acts live in the US and you reside on the other side of the world.

The airfare for bands, equipment, roadies and groupies isn't free.

While that is true in some cases, in others you'll get bands of similar size and touring needs that your here at the same venues and one may cost $70 and one may cost $40. I saw Ed a few years back at his acoustic show and it cost $30 more than seeing Royal Crown Revue, also from the US but are 7 or 8 piece band at the same venue. It would cost them a lot more to your than it would just Ed on his own and they packed the place out like Ed did but were so much cheaper. That isn't a specific go at Ed but just that I think a lot of artists tour here and charge a lot more than they need to just because they can.

I feel your pain, Wam. When I was a senior in high school I went to a Judas Priest concert with friends. We we're drinking vodka straight out of the bottle (never a good idea)
Anyway I ended up outside somehow with a guy I didn't even know, we wanted to go back in and couldn't understand why they wouldn't let us if we still had our ticket stubs.
Cops were called, I was arrested for criminal trespassing, thrown in a pink drunk tank (which made me vomit) and had to be bailed out by my parents.
Lucky me, because I was 18 it meant I had to go to court for the trespassing charge.
The next day there was a huge article in the paper;"Four arrested at rock concert."
I was known as convict for the rest of my senior year.
Never even got to see JP!! Ah well, taught me a lesson; I've never been so drunk or in any trouble since.

QUOTE(Pokey @ Jun 28 2012, 10:05 pm) *

I think the Ed acoustic show here was $70 from memory, and our exchange rates are roughly the same. International touring acts like Ed/Live are 70-90. The really huge acts like say U2 or Foo Fighters or legacy acts like The Rolling Stones are generally over 100. Smaller international bands and national touring artists are generally 50 and under. Of course there are exceptions to all of these but that's roughly. I paid 90 to see The Pixies in Australia. I paid 25 to see them in Texas sad.gif

That being said there are still plenty of good acts to see for cheap here. Got 4 gigs to go to next month all $20 or under.

Thanky spanky...I was curious.

So what other states did you visit besides Texas when you were here?

Errr, no. LIVE and Ed and another act that I saw earlier this year are the ONLY American acts I've seen. I'm talking about Australian bands/performers too that are based here.

Actually I lie....I saw Dan Zanes a few years back and he was a freakin bargain. I took 2 kids and two other adults for $75 all up. Someone was obviously sponsoring although I believe he did a lot of shows over 10 days. He was part of the Melbourne Music Festival. Very small gig, his whole crew were here, he spoke with every single audience member that wanted to chat with him.

Billion times better than the Wiggles but I believe a kid's ticket here to see the Wiggles is around $70!

Those tweets are pure gold. Kinda of reminds me of what WD & Maestro have been saying about what Ed's act is reduced to as he continues to push the Live catalog. But seriously that's all Ed has as fans...mostly that age group.
