You know what? i would have been perfectly fine going through the rest of my life not knowing that little Nickelback fact. Good Lord.
i don't want to know why or when or what the fuck. i just want to wash my brain.

I saw Live open for Nickelback, so did Tina. It was is in Canada.

Edit: We didn't stay for Nickleback we left. OH and WTF Leave V alone, one of my all time favorite albums!

Shelby Lynne with Run Away bites, cause it cuts taylors guitar solo which is the best part of that song.

Idol, gave us an awesome version of mystery a in my opinion better version then what's on the ablum.

Opening up for the ultimate shitty band has to be it. The others really aren't all that embarassing. Some of it might not fit your taste like V or SFBM, but they weren't embarassing.

None of those are embarassing.

I like V and SFBM both fairly well.

I fucking love Shelby Lynne and everything she does, so I can't choose that.

American Idol? So?

Nickelback? I can't stand their new stuff but they used to be good so I can't vote for that either.

My first post, and it's in the embarrassment thread!

I must be a huge geek because I don't consider any of the choices as embarrassing for the band. I think the Shelby Lynn duet is pretty, not as good as the original, but pretty nonetheless.

I'm a fan of V, so can't vote for that.

I'm not as big a fan of SFBM, but hey, I couldn't have written it. Not the lyrics, not the music. I'm not even as talented as SFBM, so who am I to judge? If this is what they want to sing, more power to them. I won't buy it or listen to it (except once, of course, and that was enough), but I'm sure they could give a shit. And hey, they should be proud of "Night of Nights."

They opened for Nickelback, huh? Well, I've liked a couple of their songs, actually. That one that goes "I like your pants around your knees"? Pretty good song! Their first hit, "Are We Having Fun Yet" was catchy too, in my opinion. No it's not art. Not even close. And I think THEY should be opening for LIVE instead of the other way around, but who knows what record labels make their property do? And I think Nickelback's most recent video is better than 98% of the ones that Live has put out. Not that this has anything to do with the music.

Doing that favor for Chris Daughtry was very sweet, in my opinion. And those kids on American Idol are impressive. They learn a new song every week, and have to sing them live, and many of them do it flawlessly. Every week. I'm not a fan of the show, but damn. They have more talent than I do, even the ones who "can't sing." The record business is such a scam, I don't blame them for trying to get ahead any way they can. Since when did talent shows become something to deride?

QUOTE(Senghe @ Mar 29 2007, 5:13 am) *

I have never been impressed by pontificating little cocks such as the likes of Bono and Chris Martin droning on about politics, environmentalism and usually fucking PETA. I'd say if you have to rely on musicians and actors to confirm or form your world view, we're fucked.

Hmm. I kind of disagree here. Ed seems to want it both ways. He'll sing "let's vote for Nader"; he'll sing "peace is now" and "the world is not my problem; I am the world," and "don't go to Starbucks," and "Mr. President I pardon you your sins for they are just as much mine" (paraphrase), but then we fucking go to war and he's silent? He sings against fundamentalism, blindly following shallow creeds, ignorance. He tells us over and over and over and over that God is Love and to love our neighbors; he walked around Ground Zero and lets himself be filmed doing it; he allowed his song "Overcome" to be usurped in the aftermath of 9/11 and even attempted to change the history of the song. And, finally, in a stunningly undignified and careless moment, he freaking wrapped himself in the American flag.

Ed has always been political, maybe not as loudly as, say, Tom Morello or Serj Tankian, but he's always been open about his politics and his beliefs. And when the country is in its worst turmoil, in its worst time in history in regards to violence and civil rights, Ed's chosen to be silent. And the ONE song he sings about it is very gentle and he even filmed an apology for it so as not to insult anyone. I'm as surprised as dabutcher. I'm sure Ed has his reasons, but it surprises and disappoints me.

Finally, I don't mind when celebrities talk about politics or religion if it's important to them. Why shouldn't they? It's better than selling zit cream.

Peace,
Trathena

I'm just getting into the post-mode too but I have to get my two cents in ... although I've skimmed through most of the posts ... maybe my views are shared by others?! I did not vote either. I respect their decision to try new things, venture out from their "norm". I try to keep an open mind on the band's artistic decisions - music, lyrics, performances. They're obviously doing SOMETHING right to continue their longevity! Here's my take though ...

Duet with Shelby Lynne - I was never a big fan of the song / duet. But I think it's cool to have a female voice on the "Awake" album ... gives the sound a little diversity. Shelby is a well-known name in the country world ... and has a huge fan base, which could translate into a few more fans for LIVE.

American Idol appearance - Although the performance is a tad bit cheesy, it's a shameless plug for the band, especially when a new album is being released! The newer albums do not get as much airtime as the older (ur, TC) ... AI has millions of viewers, impressionable who are downloading songs from iTunes, MySpace, etc. Open the band up to a new audience. Sold out - no, I don't think so. It was one time. And beside, how cool would it be to perform on stage w/your favorite band? I'm a fan of Daughtry (saw them Sat night - kick ass) ...

Opening for Nickelback - Obviously it was a successful tour if the LIVE fans really had no idea it had happened! lol.gif But again, I would have to say it's a way to get in front of some younger, newer alternative fans. I've heard that record companies push so hard to sell albums that the bands may not have a choice but go out on tour with someone like Nickelback, who is selling albums, currently.

V vs SFBM - Frankly, I really like V! The sound is different ... I sometimes listen to that album as much as TC!! And Songs ... didn't strike me as a "WOW" album but it's growing on me, some songs more than others. I like different, more "rare" sounds ...

I guess my overall theme is "selling albums." It's more or less the contractual agreement to their record label! If you notice, these "examples" are recent, within the last few years, where album sales could be down, from those in the 90's ... and the "newer" alternative bands are taking over. Although it could suck for us die-hard fans, where not-so-cool decisions are made, it's the reality of the music world. Luckily, LIVE's "embarrassments" are small, few and far between! thumbsup.gif Sorry, this is coming from my radio background! music.gif

I rather like the Shelby Lynne duet of Run Away.

I voted for SFBM. I was going to vote for Nickelback, but honestly, that was probably a good idea for them at the time. There were a hell of a lot more people listening to Nickelback than were listening to Live at the time. That would allow them to get more exposure to people who may not otherwise know about them.

That being said, Nickelback is godawful so I nearly voted that way.

Agree with Badman, but the Shelby Lynne Runaway is something that should have been saved for Ed Solo.

I think it's a dead heat between the content on SFBM and opening for Nickelback. Jesus...........I had no idea they opened for that putrid excuse for a band. Where?? Thinking back, was it for a short run of shows (or maybe a show) up in Canada? Curious.

Shelby Lynne is a great artist by the way. I think releasing Run Away as a single was idiotic (see Like I Do thread), but I have no problem with the duet and don't feel it was a big deal either way. Just a one-off duet. I haven't heard it in years, but recall thinking it was solid. Just my take.

I have to say SFBM, it's an album of recorded music, it'll never go away, it's always there. With the Nickelback thing it's been and gone, some people here didn't even know about it or like me forgot about it. But SFBM can not be undone.

they could theoretically destroy all physical copies of the album (there aren't that many), and get some computer hacking whizz to somehow delete the digital stuff and it would all be undone. Dan...you're good with computers right?
