I wonder if the guys would ever do something like this:

Quite an interesting bit of info from the frontman of The Verve Pipe. Interesting ideas...

Unlikely. That guy did it out of necessity. He was 1 guy with an acoustic guitar and an RV. Easy to setup, travel and perform. There's no way a group of 6 people could ever pull something like this off - what would be the point?

This thread reminds me of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_yBTIkwXoA

Would be awesome if Live did something like this, although like dangum mentioned, it wouldn't make much sense unless they charged a ton of money to cover the expense.

But it would be awesome. Just raw talent. No tricks.

Something Live could do is a contest for one in-home concert, record it, and sell the DVD/CD via the website so that everyone else can experience it. That may make more sense financially and be worth their time.

The benefit of house concerts is the low overhead and high payout. My friends who are relatively no-name are able to charge upwards of 500 bones just for one show. omg.gif Whenever you see a mid-level solo artist do these kinds of shows this is where they are really making their money, not with a full band.

Like Dan said, a lot of that is negated once you have four people in the mix. Is it out of the realm of possibility? Of course not, but a bigger band like Live should be able to get solid guarantees at 500-2000 seat venues and make a nice living.

Hopefully one thing we will see is invite only acoustic gigs from radio stations. I've seen a number of bands be successful with this and while the payout isn't as high, I imagine Live needs promotion more than they need money at this point.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Ed take to these kinds of shows though at some point in the next ten years. They are a great idea for solo artists and a whole lot of fun.

Ed has been doing exactly what you describe. He shed the big band. He makes stealthy appearances with an acoustic guitar and cleans up big time. He even recorded some shows and sold them (royalty-free apparently). I think it was around the end of 2008 and 2009 when Ed started "reconnecting" with his roots with those acoustic shows that he realized that he could make as much money doing one of those shows without having to worry about dealing with the other band members and their feelings or the road crew or pesky tour manager. He could run the whole business from his laptop and his guitar case. And he could sell his own merchandise too. I am not criticizing that - one should respect his business savy. But it wasn't the greatest move for his band-mates and Live fans who were casualties of these decisions.

Still tough to see this avatar and read a post that is sensible and makes valid points. Can you change your signature to some snarky remark about Live and their new cover singer. Just so there is some balance.

I see a lot of solo acts doing the house concert as a reward for chipping into their KickStarter fund. Rocky Votolato comes to mind as a musician who as done this as well.

SItting in my kitchen as I post. 5 square metres.

Yup, I would def invite Live for a house show, with Memphis over the fridge and perhaps Pat on the balcony to jam through the kitchen window.

That would take the audience into the sink. And Taylor will be placed on the table for sure.

Exactly, he just hasn't tapped into the house shows yet. As much as he is able to charge the larger venues he could get even more at house shows. Guarantee it.

You need to take him back for the Jedi. The dark side has had him for far too long.
