I'm at peace now after hearing that. He will never be a part of LIVE again. I can accept 100% that he's moved on from what LIVE is/are.

If you were hoping that yesterday would be the day that Ed was going to change his ways and return to his roots and find the mojo he had in the 90's, then yesterday was not your day, and I am not sure that hope springs eternal any longer.

I think that the song actually sounds really good for the kind of song it is - which is the kind of song he tried to fill Awake with. In fact, I like the sound of that better than most of Awake. But it sounds like the vocals are drowned out with a chorus of voices, like the chorus of Eds on SFBM. Way over produced, especially on the vocals, which is unfortunate because I always thought that the raw sound of Ed's voice is what makes it shine. That is why the early albums sounded so good vocally, and why Ed shines in those acoustic shows.

But it is NOT my kind of music and that is nowhere close to what Live was or is. If I haven't mentioned today how happy I am to have Chris Shinn as the lead singer of Live, let me state that emphatically right now.

I listened about 20 more times last night and once more just now. you're right fish. it's just overproduced.

in fact, it's just too much.
and for what kind of song (and probably album) it will be, it might actually be decent.

but there's just too much going on.
sometimes less is more. Ed's voice is apparently never going to be what it was, but we might like it better if we could actually hear it.

What Ed is doing now reminds me of a 55 year old Hollywood starlet has-been who becomes addicted to tinkering with plastic surgery to try and look like she did when she was 25 and get the same fame and get the same roles. He must tinker with the producing on all of his music over the last decade like Joan Rivers gets plastic surgery. Does anyone watch 30 Rock? Ed is the Jenna Maroney of music.

At my job I hear a lot of religious music, and it's possible to do it with a whole lot of art and creativity.

This... is not that. sad.gif

i am sure it will appeal to some....his hardcore current fans, and some new fans.....but Old School Live fans......this is more of the same. I won't be buying that.

It's almost as if he writes his songs using Christian Mad Libs.

The Lord is my insert noun.
He insert verb my insert adjective soul.

I didn't like it but I am not upset. It just reinforces the fact that Live is making the right decision in moving forward with Shinn. Ed is doing his thing and hopefully he will have some more songs to replace the Live songs in his setlist. He clearly isn't capable of returning to his former self and that is fine. Do your thing, Ed. It was a great ride while it lasted.

I like the sound of it a lot. I'm a fan of pop music and I think it suites Ed better than rock at the moment. He wanted to move his music in his own direction, and going solo has allowed him to do so. I'm really looking forward to his new EP.

QUOTE(Pokey @ Apr 14 2012, 1:49 am) *

more of the same old crap it seems "sometimes people change, and I am the proof" oh god is that ever true, Ed! RIP Ed Kowalczyk 1971 - 1999

Songs about change and people changing have been written hundreds of thousands of times. It seems fitting that Ed would tackle the subject with transparent lyrics that revolve around him as the focus of the song.

Lame!

At this point I could really care less what you think about how music sounds, but I have to say "of course you would say you like the sound of that crap, I would expect nothing else from you".

Still holding out hope his little 3-6 song EP will have something I can add to the other 7 songs I enjoy listening to from Alive.

He wrote the LIVE hits, there is no reason he can't sing them. The fact that he is still creating new solo material post LIVE is awesome for me.
