As I recorded a version of I Walk The Line by Johnny Cash myself, inspired by the renditions of LIVE (on Awake) and Daughtry later on, I realized how much I like the version and how cool it was that LIVE took a well known song and made it sound new.

Then I got interested in the background story. This was recorded years before Awake, right? For a Sun Records compilation album, if I remember correctly? (2000 maybe?). Youtube says in the Awake playlist it was released on 2004-01-01, which is weird.

Did Johnny ever got to hear it and if so: did he like it? (I remember Ed referencing to Cash in concert many times, hoping he would like it haha). I think mentioning Cash before playing the song, was included the Paradiso DVD as well. I think it ended up on some versions of SFBM overseas in 2016, because of the Chris Daughtry thing that happened on American Idol. That didn't match SFBM in any way haha, but whatever.

Guess it was great they still included this cover after they came back for the reunion. Check the Pinkpop 2017 video for example. Too bad they stopped and then they played Paint It Black and Losing my Religion covers... which are great songs, but they did do absolutely nothing with those songs, other than playing it as a coverband would do it.

Last question: anyone ever noticed how the intro of the song on Awake is a bit different than the (music) video that is available for the song on Youtube, where you see and hear them talk about the song and playing it, with Jerry. I think the first verse of Ed singing is a little bit different and especially there's a guitar behind is voice on Awake. In the video on Youtube Ed's singing the first one almost acapella.

Oh, and for those who like to hear (and see) the version I recorded last month myself, I uploaded it on Youtube, watch it here (as I said, inspired by the version of LIVE, especially the chord progression, but also tried to make it my own with the sound of my original music I record from time to time, which you can hear on the same channel as well).
