"American Idol" season 5 finalist Chris Daughtry has been sued by his former bandmates over royalties, Greensboro, N.C.'s News & Records reports.

Bassist Ryan Andrews, drummer Scott Crawford and guitarist Mark Perry -- who joined Daughtry in the band Absent Element prior to "Idol," MyFox Memphis reports -- filed a lawsuit on Thursday in Guilford County Superior County claiming that Daughtry defrauded them out of royalties from four songs, including music and lyrics, that the group had written together.

The trio's lawsuit cites "constructive fraud, breaches of fiduciary duty, unfair trade practices and other deceptive and wrongful conduct" on the part of Daughtry.

Daughtry posted a brief statement on his official band website in response to the allegations on Friday: “I am very hurt by these false accusations. The songs listed in this lawsuit were written solely by me and no one else and at this time, I have no further comment.”

Daughtry was a fourth place finisher during "Idol's" 2006 season which saw NBC "Smash" star Katharine McPhee face off with winner Taylor Hicks in the finale. His band Daughtry was formed that year.

Rocker Chris Daughtry says he is "very hurt" by a royalties suit filed by his ex-bandmates. The former American Idol finalist has been accused of defrauding bassist Ryan Andrews, drummer Scott Crawford and guitarist Mark Perry out of royalties from four songs.

The musicians, who played with Daughtry in the band Absent Element, claim they wrote the tracks' music and lyrics with the singer.

The trio cites "constructive fraud, breaches of fiduciary duty, unfair trade practices and other deceptive and wrongful conduct" on Daughtry's part, according to the suit filed on Thursday and obtained by North Carolina's News & Record.

However, Daughtry has hit back at the allegations in a brief statement on his website, which reads, "I am very hurt by these false accusations. The songs listed in this lawsuit were written solely by me and no one else and at this time, I have no further comment."
