what did live just play 2 weeks ago? so hypocritical. i cant wait to see how many new songs live plays after they release something.

hey hey yeah lets judge it totally on one dress rehearsal gig and an unadvertised secret gig both of which weren't even a full set length, that's the best way to draw comparisons to a guy who is well into his solo career and "moving on" from the past!

I have no problem with live playing whatever or Ed playing whatever. Go look at the post I was responding to otd clone. When Ed said moving on it wasn't about the songs it was the people.

I thought for sure i heard Ed at least once say he was moving on because the music got stale and he wanted a change of direction... meaning the music. The only time i remember hearing him say anything about new people was when he called CCP "those individuals." Other than comments he made about his new bandmates being his brothers.

But whatever. they both have the right to play Live songs.
I'd much rather Ed stick to his new stuff - at least with the band. Solo acoustic his version of Live's music is still pretty awesome.

Live playing Live songs is also pretty awesome. And if the shows I saw in 98 are any indicator (and remember, in 98 all 4 band members were running the show... it wasn't Ed in charge of setlists and such until later) they played almost all new songs. I wouldn't be surprised if they come out and play a huge majority of new stuff.

If I try to think like Nick for a minute and think only about money (and recognizing that I don't know anything about their personal wealth's except for what I can imagine and I'm totally ignoring whatever I'm sure they've got saved up), CCP don't *NEED* Live to be a commercial success in the same way Ed does - solely based on the fact that CCP all have other business ventures... Ed is a singer/musician. That's it, unless someone knows something I don't (besides the coffee and pendants).
So if CCP hung up their music hats right now they'd still be able to feed their kids.
Ed would actually have to get a job selling coffee (like, at Starbucks) if he doesn't tour... unless he has other talents/skills we don't know about.

I feel like that's very possibly (again, this is me speculating) a huge part of why Ed became such a sell-out.

The guys can afford to just play for fun, kinda... or in my mind that's how it works. Maybe I'm freaking clueless (very possible), but this is the theory I've had for quite a while, and it's what helps me understand how CCP can have stayed so true to the idea of music first.

anyway, that said, maybe I'm stupid. just my thoughts.
I'm sure they all could live forever without ever making another dollar from anything... but I also know Ed was recently sued for over $1 million...

anyway, pretty sure Ed said more than once the moving on was about the music. that's why he gets shit for playing 3/4 LIVE songs and 1/4 his own at his shows.

Ed is also a songwriter for other artists. What outside business venture for CCP can you point to being successful? I am pretty sure Ed could retire right now and still be able to feed his kids. I also would think he has more money from his days with LIVE than CCP do.
