So I'm absolutely obsessed with this band at the moment, they've only been around for a couple of years but next week they are releasing their debut album (You Me Bullets Love). They mix surf rock with 70s style Bollywood funk and are just so much fun to see play live. I've seen them 5 times in the past 6 months. And not to mention their female singer is beyond gorgeous, which always helps! I think they're currently one of the best band's that Melbourne has to offer, tongue is firmly planted in cheek with them, but the level of talent is incredible. They're all about crazy costumes and have ridiculous names like they're characters from a cheesy Bollywood film. They don't sing in English which can put some people off, but honestly when you think of the voice as an instrument you just enjoy it's melody. Anyhoo, check them out, and if you're an Aussie here then do yourself a favour and look out for when they're in your city as they are totally worth a night out to see.

haha no its not a joke, they're just playing with different styles of music, themes from 1970s Indian Bollywood films and surf rock, all the characters that they play are just a bit of a jab at the ridiculous sorts of characters you'd find in Bollywood films of that era. It's meant to be light hearted fun, there's nothing overly serious about it, I wouldn't call them a comedy band by any means, but they're just having fun with music. Just good vibes and having a dance.

I took this video myself last month (until I was told to stop filming by security sad.gif):

Cool, but you ARE joking about them being the best band out of Melbourne right?  Hahaha :-P thanks for sharing Pokey, I don't think I'd go out of my way to see them but would probably enjoy watching them if they were playing at a gig I was at.

haha not joking at all hehe.gif They were better than any other Melbourne band I saw last year (I'm talking about up-and comers here), which is saying something because the Melbourne, and the Australian music scene in general is going through a great period.

Agreed its a great time for Aussie music I have been going to see gigs more often than usual.  Help me out, I'm trying to figure out your taste in music, what do you think of this band:

Sub Atari Knives are currently one of my fave bands to see play.

eh its not really my thing, I don't instantly dislike it, but the vocals are a bit blah for my liking, ironically though considering your avatar, it made me think of a track Mike Patton did with the Qemists which I quite liked - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzF4V2xkl6c

That's often the joke with hardcore Patton fans (of which I'm one tongue.gif) but I drew the line at his "Adult Themes for Voice" album, that was just ... too much. tongue.gif
