I just listened to the new versions of AOY and now Lightning Crashes - I don't know how many are available, but I didn't see anyone on the board talking about it yet - which I find shocking.

AOY sounded pretty tight. I'm liking what I'm hearing. It's like talking to an old friend who you haven't seen in years, and they're older now but you connect with them in a newer, better way.

Here's the thing. With rare exceptions, nobody posting messages on the internet actually knows Ed or CCP.** These people choose sides based on loyalties and the idea that they know and "like" Ed or whatever. It's funny - these battles over sides are stuck in the very trap that Ed sang about 20 years ago - "I have chosen these anthems of these I am proud. Portraits of a divided crowd." Nick and MVDB don't actually know these people who are members of Live, yet they battle for Ed's honor as if they know him and need to back him up, or attack CCP for what they think they are doing or what they think motivates them. It is delusional to take up battles over the actions and motives of people you don't even know. With a few limited exceptions, we are just a bunch of people out here in the public who listen to music and like this band or Ed. So the only thing that we have any justification in defending and commenting on is the music. And even in that limited space, we only have the authority to express our opinion, our views and reviews of the music - and not state opinion like it is some objective fact.

For me:

1. Live was great with all 4 guys in the bad until the end of the 20th century
2. then Live sucked when Ed took over, with a few exceptions where we know for a fact that CCP had input on the songs
3. then Ed went solo and his solo album stinks
4. then CCP made The Gracious Few, which was awesome
5. now CCP restarted Live with a new lead singer and the shows were awesome and the 4 re-recordings are awesome

I really don't need to study the trends in those statements for very long in order to reach some easy conclusoins about my musical preference and where I will choose to focus my attention. If Ed makes some great music again, I may take notice. Until then, I am a fan of what TGF and Live are doing.


** Interestingly, the few people that actually do know these people personally have chosen loyalty to CCP, and I don't know of any supporter of Ed that posts messages on the internet in support of Ed who actually knows Ed.
