I must admit, I'm impressed by the music.

I still don't like Maynard's vocals, however.

No..... and you need to listen more before making a proper judgement? If you've listened to vicarious you would surely know that they're talented musicians.

Btw, I believe Maynard isn't even that involved in the writing process of the album... might be wrong though

No, you're right. The band writes most of the music without maynard present, and then maynard adds the vocals to that afterwards. That's how it's been with lateralus and 10,000 days, at least. He was a bit more involved before then. It's pretty cool to listen to a lot of their songs knowing that the music was written entirely in and of itself. As much as I like maynard, it's cool to think about the music being written for itself.
