And yep, holding on to his LIVE roots, with his "I Alone" tour.

Recognizable member, risky proposition .. Jesus Christ dude its music, not a brand, not a business. Who gives a shit if some people don't recognise anyone but Ed? Who gives a shit if some people dont like it? So long as it sounds good! And believe it or not, music can sound good without Ed Kowalczyk. The guys are past the stage of wanting to rule the music world, I'm sure they'd be happy still playing to smaller but enthusiastic fans. God when will you stop taking something that is art and trying to fit it into a business model? There is an element of that but you act like its the be all and end all. Surely you're in the wrong business of gym teacher, you should have been a blood sucking record exec for Sony or something where you could spend your day whoring out talent.

Jesus, he'd be a terrible record exec. You've got to have some business sense and remove your emotional attachment. Doesn't matter how much you worship someone. If every record label, club, whatever, got behind only the stuff they personally liked they'd all fail. Well, many are failing anyway. The point is, he pretends to know all this stuff about music but he's really just a crazed fan.

Very few bands have ever successfully replaced their lead singer without death being the factor:

http://rock.about.com/od/top10lists/tp/Roc...LeadSingers.htm

LIVE should outdraw Ed in some markets on name alone. That doesn't mean Ed solo won't draw enough for Ed to play and be successful. Many fans would rather here the actual voice and chief songwriter of the band LIVE over CCP and an unknown cover singer.

Fuel with chief songwriter and lead guitarist, Carl Bell, did so poorly with a new singer that he eventually sold rights back to original singer Bret Scallions, who is doing fairly well with the new version of Fuel.

My money is on Ed.

Live will out draw Ed in every market on name alone, by a long shot. You can bet all you want, doesn't change the fact that Ed has done nothing to establish himself beyond Live. That's the real problem. He's hanging his hat on Live. I'm sure he was banking on (just like you) Live folding up without him. Guess what. They aren't. That puts a serious dent in his fan base. Most fans are not aware of things the way we are here and they don't have as much of an attachment either way. Ed's continual reliance on Live to sell his shows will ultimately be his death. Like I said, this has nothing to do with what I think about him or his music. He'd be very wise to differentiate his new material from Live, start drawing fans for that, as well as being the former Live guy. Just playing up the Live factor alone will not work once they are back.

He can tour market his new tour as Ed Kowalczyk, former lead singer of LIVE, and do just fine. The acoustic tour will give fans a different type of show than the rock show that new LIVE will offer. Ed also has been touring hard in international markets and is constantly gaining new fans worldwide.

CCP and their fans should focus on making new LIVE more successful and lasting than The Gracious Few. That is a realistic goal. Putting Ed out of business is not.
