Now why would Chris be writing songs when his new album is already done and just happens to be in York, PA? Hmmmmmm..... happy.gif

An album with tracks like New City would be just like hearing an all new album to me. We know so little of those songs, but I hope they only do that if the songs fit with their other material.

I don't think that they would want to pay Ed extra royalties on their new album by including material that he wrote.

This is possible although it depends on whether or not they care THAT much about the money or are still pissed at Ed THAT much. I mean, if they pump out 10 new tracks and put a few older ones and Ed gets some money I am okay with that.

I am not sure what I would do if I were in their situation. It is a tough call. There are pros and cons to doing either.

I just hope they don't release a stock standard 12 track, 40 minute CD.

Make it special, add a few extra tracks and try to fill the disc with music. Something like 13 new songs along with a few re-recorded unreleased original Live tracks would be a good comprimse.

I just want good music. Don't care how many songs. Though I don't want it to be below 50min or so.
Would be funny to release a proggy concept album with a 1 hour long epic song lol.

The more I think about this, the more I think that I just don't know how I am going to react to this Live 2.0.

I am almost 100% positive that I will love it. I couldn't have told you that before TGF made music, but TGF proved to me that CCP have still "got it", perhaps moreso than ever. If they have selected a quality artist/vocalist to join with them in Live 2.0, and they apply themselves, then I am pretty sure that I will like it and it will be objectively great music.

Thank God for TGF, if for no other reason than for coming before Live 2.0 and showing us that there is still rocket fuel in the tank. TGF is to Live 2.0 like John the Baptist is to Jesus.

But that being said, I don't know how I will react to Live 2.0 in the cd player and in concert. Great music? Yes. Live? I don't know. Live is Live. You know. Ed Kowalczyk. 4 boys from York. Lifelong friends. Teaching me things about myself and society. Making me think. Every spin of a tune is a different journey and I hear something new every time.

Live 1.0 is dead and gone. I don't think it will EVER return. I don't care if Ed ever comes back and sings Lightening Crashes and other hits on a stage at a county fair again. That's not what Live is all about and it is regrettable that it was what Live became.

Live 1.0 is dead because of what it takes to make classic Live music in the songwriting process. The music has to come from a place where the 4 guys were when they were kicking pebbles down the abandoned blue-collar streets of York, discovering a vast world outside of the confines of white, christian York County and Lancaster County. Ed in the rich mountains of California, with money and connections and the blessing of a big beautiful family and spiritual contentment in the belief system of his upbringing is not the right spring from which great new Live music will spring forth. Even if he becomes penitent and reconciles his friendship with CCP, he would have a HUGE journey in front of him before he can find that organic temult that is necessary for making good Live music. If he tries to write music today that sounds like classic Live, he would be faking it. Because he doesn't have it in him anymore.

CCP have miraculously kept "it". Not even the shaking of Ed's "money maker" in their faces as they grooved off a miltoast rendition of Sofia was able to pound their passion into submission. It is probably the grounding of living in York and Lancaster.

Alas, there is no Wayback machine and there is no hot tub time machine. So now we have Live 2.0. What will differentiate it from TGF? The sound of the music will be different than TGF. It will be more Live-esque. The lyrics should be different. They will be more Live-esque. But will it be "Live"? How long will it take before you stop hearing CCP playing their distinctive music (and it is probably only distinctive to us - and probably not even ALL of us) behind a new lead singer. How long will it be before we think of it as "Live"?

And what will the concerts be like? What will it be like for the new lead singer to sing Live songs. He might do a decent Ed vocal performance to make you think it is similar. But will it feel like a Live concert with a different lead singer any more than it will feel like a TGF concert with a different lead singer? What will it feel like?

I don't know.
