What happened to Live? In 2009, the band announced a two-year hiatus. This hiatus turned into a permanent break-up when it was revealed that lead singer Ed Kowalczyk wanted a $100,000 bonus just for being the lead singer. The rest of the band decided that maybe they’d just go ahead without him. Good idea, guys, because everybody wants to hear those “other” members of Live. Give the man his hundy thousy G’s and get this comeback cracking.

Obviously this doesn't apply to everyone, but a lot of people that want Ed back seem to be the sort that have trouble seeing beyond a voice in a band. Its the most identifiable aspect of the band to them. The ones who are at least open to the idea of a change of voice and lyrics seem to be the ones who see the band as a whole. I bring up again the "not noticeable drop offs" comment as I still think it is the stupidest thing I've ever heard on the board. If you really can't tell the difference between Ed's backing band and CCP then its no wonder you want Ed to come back and front Live and no one else, the voice is all you can recognise.

The sentimentality is there, yeah in an ideal world Live in its original form would have kept kicking on making amazing album after amazing album, but the formula got changed up and the whole thing went balls in almost every way. Live were such a great family band, not that you'd gather the kiddies around to listen to "Stage", but it was all so close knit within the band, you felt good that they were brothers. It sucks that isn't the case anymore between them, well it is for the majority still, but not for 1. But you gotta get over that stuff.

In the end its happening the way its happening and everyone really should be happy. Ed is doing exactly what he wants, his solo stuff that sounds like latter day Live, if you liked that then its there for you. CCP are doing what they want and that is bringing the spirit of the old band back, the sound of yester-year and that's what so many have been craving for years. When it comes down to it, everyone is getting what they want with the best that they have to work with because obviously the perfect scenario where the original 4 reunite and come up with Throwing Copper 2 isn't going to happen.
If you're unhappy because you can't fathom the entity of Live continuing without Ed then that's just your problem that you need to get over, focus on the music, gravitate towards the music that makes you happy.
