From the Salt Lake Tribune:

"I had simply come to the end of a chapter in my life and wanted to spread my wings and move beyond what I had been doing, in the same way, for almost 20 years. As far as the allegations that were leveled at me and purported as the reason for the breakup, they were all absolutely untrue. I have no plans to work with those individuals again."

I know there's a lot of speculation on this board, and some of you know the band members personally... does anyone know Ed's side of the story?

If you're not a fan of what CCP are doing then stop following them and follow Ed, it's really just not that hard.

i bet you don't mind fans who went to ed's fb site, and told ed on his wall that he was a bastard

QUOTE(TheAdamTaylor @ Oct 2 2011, 1:51 pm) *
If someone was selling music that I helped create on their website and they weren't paying me the mechanical royalties, I'd stick a legal chainsaw up their asshole.

It's funny how the law works like that.

unless of course you guys had some kind of contract (how the law works), then you might actually stay away from their asshole

QUOTE(Hoodstock @ Oct 2 2011, 9:22 pm) *

Now you're an internet thread English teacher? rolleyes.gif

Next thing you know he'll be correcting people who type LOL!

yea you didn't know the word privy, and the point that i made went over your head as usual, hilarious

QUOTE(jaybb @ Oct 2 2011, 10:37 pm) *

That's exactly what I meant in my original post. If I helped create a song and that song was being sold either at concerts on CD or via the internet, I'd be pretty pissed. There is no grey and the contract doesn't have a lot to do with this issue. ASCAP handles most of this in a standard manner - there is a standard mechanical royalty rate.

It's not like it isn't clear who wrote the songs. Just look at the CD liner. The credited writers are owed money. Sorry, but that's the way it works. If I recorded a version of "The River," a song where Ed is the sole credited author, and started to sell it on my website for money - and he found out about it - I'm absolutely certain there would be a lawsuit much in the same manner (yes, there were additional charges leveled against Ed - I'm not referring to those).

And yes, for the record, it is negligent that a successful performing artist would attempt something that amateur - if the accusations are true. Either he sold the songs or he didn't (he did). Either he paid them the money from that or he didn't (they claim he didn't). End of story.

are you a lawyer? did you learn how to make a legal analysis from stuff you conjured up from your gut instinct and reading things on the internet?

You couldn't be further from the truth. I don't follow Ed on facebook or twitter as I'm not a fan of his solo work (funny that how I don't waste time following people I don't care for). So I'm not privy to anyone bashing him on his Facebook. If they were then I'd say the same thing to them, just quit following him and focus on something you do like instead. I think he deserves everything he gets and ive thrown comments around about him here but I'm here on a LIVE fan site for LIVE. I'd never bother going out of my way to make disparaging remarks directly to him in a nest of his own fans. If they want to follow and love him that's fine, I think they like some terrible music but that's their choice.
So I think it works both ways. If you were a fan of Live and you don't like the fact Ed is gone, move on and listen to him as the man himself has apparently moves on and barely talks about Live why should you? Just like I've moved on from Ed, I don't follow him and comment on things he says to tell him how I feel he's disappointed me.

Arguing anything to the contrary of this is just being silly for the sake of arguing. Yeah free speech is free speech so if you expect people should be able to tell CCP how they feel then you damn sure better expect CCP to say how they feel in the end. They're not politicians, they don't have to bite their tongue and kiss babies and not rock the boat. Theyre dudes. Dudes who play rock music and have feelings and emotions and don't have to hold back.

shut up about that already. its my honest opinion that anyone should flame away (within reason), to a band at any time, boo at a concert, express themselves on a message board..

and if a band member will accept the good comments but then try to cull out the band ones,
its pretty lame.

Every time I look at the title of this thread, I think of the question in the broader sense. The bigger picture. There has been an agglomeration of facts and develoments that point to a real change in Ed's attitude toward the music industry, spirituality, money and his relationships. I won't bother to go through all of the details here. It has been said many times in many threads.

But how does a guy who wrote this in his teens:

"I've been to every book
I've been to every seer
In order to find the truth
As if it lives somewhere

I want to uproot my violence
I want to live like a saint
I want to give up everything

Just like the businessman wants to gain
Just like the businessman wants to gain

Please don't tell me what peace is
Let's look together
And find out what love is not"

... end up professing to have found the truth in the "Good Book", trying to gain like a business man, and keeps telling us where peace can be found? It is a complete turn-about of philosophy and enlightenment. Going from negation to greed. Mystical enlightenment to dogma. Caring about the music to caring about merchandise.

That's what frustrates those of us who actually used to get it, and who really gave a damn. Not about just the music, but about the +Spirit of Live+.

It's like finding out that Ghandi was just Hitler in a robe of truth. Like finding out that John Lennnon was Bernie Maddoff.

I was listening to Four Songs on the way into work today, using every bit of the 780 watts my car stereo can produce. I love the song Negation. It is mind boggling to listen to the bass in Heaven Wore a Shirt and hear how it drives the song. But if you want to know what the perfect Live song is, then listen to Good Pain. It is the perfect example of all four parts of the band working together.

The song starts out soft. Ed is singing about what Krishnamurti "said".
Ed is the student of philosophy, listening and trying to understand.
Then, in a moment of awakening, Ed get's it: "well, don't you know, now I; I'll never be the same again"!
What does this awakening mean? "no more bittersweet; no more good pain; no more..."

And that's when it happens. The music ERUPTS, just like the blossoming awareness of the lyricist at that very moment. "HEY!!" RAT TAT TAT, RAT TAT TAT of the drums. The music compliments the lyrics. And the lyrics shift to the perspective of the enlightened man, who now gets it, and explains it: "so many of us stand in the middle; looking back to the worst; looking forward to the fall... no more bittersweet, no more good pain"

And there you have it. +Live+ firing on all cylinders. Ed is enlightened and beautifully articulating advanced spiritual philosophy. CCP bringing their musical genious to the table and the guitar, drums and bass working together with the lyrics and the tempo to make one whole complete song. No part undervalued. Every part wokring together in harmony. Balance. Brilliance.

Every song off of Mental Jewelry gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it to this very day. I am amazed at what was done by those four guys.

And now, we have Christian Rocker Ed, stealing from his friends, selling stick figure drawings and singing about the holy Eucharist.

So what happened to Ed? That's a darn good question.

CCP have kids and they still have the same brains, creativity and creative integrity they had when they wrote Mental Jewelry.
