just fyi, I inquired about the total of tix sold because I knew someone would want to know and no one would believe Nick. I hope I have a solid enough reputation to tell the truth. I have no reason to lie.
anyway, the show.
As an overview I can say I was actually hoping to hear more from Alive, because when I saw the band together in December I wasn't overwhelmed with how they played the LIVE songs.
Whether it's a function of playing together for a much longer period of time, or Ramy not drumming, or all things combined, they (the backup band guys) did a very fine job covering the Live songs. Still covering... not the same as the actual Live musicians, but the songs were a bit different, and rather well done. So.

1. All Over You (followed by technical difficulties that led Ed to have a brief conversation with the crowd, during which he asked for a beer, and someone suggested Ed do an acoustic number while we all waited for the sound guy to get it right... sooo)

so I was excited by the All Over You start. the technical difficulties made me pay attention to Ed's reaction, because I have seen him in past concerts get really pissed when things don't go well. He didn't seem pissed, he actually joked a bit, and like I said, asked for a beer. Then grabbed his guitar and played Turn My Head (which I didn't see printed on the setlist I could see but didn't grab). I was very excited about this because he got sooo deep compared to how I've seen him sing this song in the last few years. The Great Beyond was energetic and is very much fun live. The Distance was impressive because Ed gave us very little falsetto. I love TDTH but that's when the falsetto started, and I was happy that he spoke a few of the lyrics, and kept it to a normal range, rather than reaching for the falsetto. Selling The Drama was very nicely done. He gave a little intro to Drink, talking about how he wrote it with Chris Daughtry's help. Zion was awesome. I love Zion, it's my favorite off Alive. That song made the whole show worth the drive. The Dolphin's Cry had some impressive guitar work. I know no one will believe me unless someone puts up a video, it wasn't necessarily the most technical guitar work, but it was slightly different than I've ever heard it and there was a very nice dramatic pause and I was very happy to hear the song. Stand and Heaven were both full of Ed's energy. Heaven is not my favorite song, so I didn't need to hear it, but it was well done. Before Grace Ed spoke a little, but honestly, my phone rang and I answered it so I missed what he said. I know it was an intro to the song and I heard him say "that's God" but I don't know what he was saying.
I was surprised to hear white, discussion right after Grace. At the beginning Ed was smiling a little too much (like he did in that video of shit towne), but he quickly cut it out and got into the song properly. When he sang "but it leaves me quite erect" he added "sometimes" as kind of an afterthought, but he didn't laugh. I laughed. I'm not sure it was supposed to be funny. I didn't notice the crowd reaction, or even if they noticed.
During I Alone I was curious as to what he would sing/say during the bridge (since it's varied so much over the years) but he introduced the band. boring.
The time they took off stage was short, and when they came back, they played an intro to Just In Time that I didn't recognize but enjoyed. Beauty of Gray was a nice surprise. Maybe I was only surprised because I haven't looked at setlists lately. And he probably sings it at most shows when I think about it. But I wasn't thinking about it, so I was happily surprised.
I was a bit leary of Lakini's Juice when I heard it starting because I couldn't remember how well it had gone when the did it in September, but I wasn't disappointed. It was different. Not a carbon copy of what CC&P would do. Lightning Crashes was good as always, and as the song started to wind down, the fireworks outside the window started. It was perfect.

I was very satisfied. When I did pay attention to the crowd, they seemed to be enjoying themselves. I did not get a video because, as I said, my phone sucks. I did see several guys holding their phones up the whole time as if making videos, so hopefully someone will post vids soon. There was some of the Ed hip shake, but I never mind that (Ed's cute, after all). The lack of falsetto, and his energy on stage (jumping around and really screaming his head off into the mic) made it a really good show. Definitely the best of the 4 I've seen of just him. Still not top 5 LIVE/Ed K shows ever, but the most energy I've seen from him in a long time. I was a little shocked/disappointed that there were only 6 songs off Alive in the setlist because the songs are much better in person than on the cd. I was, however, very happy with everything played.
