why would such an infinite creator set up a system like this where he gets reduced to a man in the first century Roman empire who voluntarily allowed himself to be beaten, humiliated, tortured and crucified, so that if people believe God did it for thousands of years in the future then they can get into heaven.

He suffered for the human beings and their sins. That's what they say

Thanks. It would be my honor to buy you a pint.

I know that the premise is that Jesus suffered and died for peoples sins. "He died so that sins may be forgiven". Where did that rule come from? It didn't exist before Jesus. It wasn't a rule within Judaism. People weren't waiting for that rule to be carried out. That premise is based on the 2,000 year old pagan concept of blood sacrifice. At the time of Jesus, people sacrificed animals to the Gods to get rain, avoid death by wars, etc. Also, the Jews conducted some animal sacrifice. They took goats to the temple and sacrificed them. That is the premise of Jesus substitutionary sacrifice for us and our sins. Jesus had to sacrifice his life for our sins. And now, if we believe the fact that he did it, we can be saved. A human blood sacrifice was required in order for our sins to be forgiven. It was God committing suicide really, because he was God and he could have stopped it and he didn't have to do it, he just wanted to for us. And the all powerful, unknowable creator of all things had to jump through these hoops and become Himself a human blood sacrifice so that he could forgive our sins, because they couldn't have been forgiven by him otherwise. But 2,000 years later, we know that the concept of blood sacrifice in order to gain favors is an intiquated concept. It doesn't make sense. But this orthodox Christian doctrine is firmly grounded in this out-dated, archaic concept of the necessity of blood sacrifice of animals. The "pascal lamb". This is my body and blood, which will be shed for you so that sins may be forgiven. It may have made sense to pagans 2,000 years ago but doesn't make any sense anymore. I believe in a philosophy of Christianity, but it is not this conventional orthodoxy.
