Year end review, I think this one was out there earlier in the year done by a European interviewer who asked the hard questions.

Thank God. Finally Ed got put on the spot and was asked to address this shit for fans. The guy asking the questions is my new hero! Way to lay it down. thumbsup.gif

Ed - Can we please just talk about the new record? lol

I love how Ed's face looks pissed when he gets asked the money question! Notice he never flat out denies what is being stated by the interviewer, he simply says that's not how it happened and that it's a mischaracterization.

What I don't understand is why he indiates that the band was was restraining him, the last two albums didn't have the sound he wanted, he needed to be able to write on his own, and he needed creative freedom. From all accounts those two albums were all on him and if he's not happy all he has to do is look in the mirror.

We'll probably never know the grey area between the two sides but here's what I think happened:

The band gave up on ideas of creative contribution because Ed was becoming more of a demanding dictaor then a positive co worker. Because of the give up Ed felt like he was doing all the work (which was probably true at the end because of strained relations he created because of his actions and persistence). The band got sick of Ed constantly demeaning them and Ed got to the point where he felt like Live was dead weight.

I think Ed eventually believed that he could do everything just as well on his own. He started getting harsher on his bandmates, they resented him more because of it, and it turned into a downward spiral like a bad marriage that has gone beyond the point of repair.

Ed then sprang it on his unhappy band that he had decided to venture out on his own. They felt like he was a pre-madonna and got pissed because of this and it tore the band into two. Somewhere towards the end C,C, and P were interested in a gig and in spite he charged them a fee because he did not want to perform more shows with te and had decided to go solo before hand (this might have been when he told them, or sightly after), and shit blew up completely.

After seeing this interview I think it is clear that Ed has moved on and Live is now a chapter in his life. Live, as we know it, is done. Any longings for the good old days by CG is going to get a kick in the face by Ed.

I know many here like blame Ed and hate on his new music. Personally I beleive that he initiated a lot of the problems wth Live and I think he is the most responsible for the break up of the band. At the same time I feel that there were probably many opportunities for the band to fix their problems and that all members to some extent are for the breakup. Eventually it just got to the point where there was no going back and then it was just to late. Now, despite a few hopeful thoughts by Chad T, it's clear that the damage done means it's over.

Going forward I think I'll always blame Ed the most for what happened and favor the rest of the band because of it. I think my image of Ed will always be skewed. That being said his voice is what made Live. I'll always be interested in what C,C, and P are doing but to me the lead singer really is the signature of any band and no matter if they are TGF or Live reincarnated the sound of the vocals will always be my focal point. I've simply never enjoyed another singer's sound like Ed.

As far as Ed, I think I'll always have distain towards him because of all this but I still want to hear what he puts out simply because of the vocals. I hope that I will not be continuously disappointed by his lyrics and the direction he is going.
