I've been watching the baseball playoff games and Nissan keeps running this commercial for a new little cross-over vehicle with a turbo. In the video, "Kowalczyk" gets a call that an intern forgot the doughnuts or somewthing, and Kowalczyk races through town and gets the food to the meeting like some kind of super hero. It's funny, I keep hearing the name Kowalczyk and think of Ed. I wonder if the writer fo the commercial is a Live fan?

that's a common Polish name.

According to one of my former professors, who is Polish, it means "son of a smith" or "apprentice smith" or even "the smith who makes small items". This is "smith" as in blacksmith.

His name was Ciuk, but he said it was probably originally Kowalczyk. When the Russians invaded Poland long ago, his family ended up being in the part they occupied. He said the Russians changed his family's name to something they found easier to say and spell lol.gif
