Not really worried about how it charts. It's kinda their fault for going Indie. They should have made this record under a major label and let them push it to radio.

I can guarantee you that if this record had the proper backing, it would be doing ten times better than it is right now.

As pathetic as it is to say, this record needs radio play for recognition. By the way things have gone so far, it's not going to happen. Millions of people aren't being exposed to the music. The edge 102.1 here refuses to play it, I'm guessing because it's an Indie band nobody has heard of. They're not even bothering to listen to the music.

Record companies, especially one that sees a good record like this, would hammer it down radios throats. They'd be playing it and the band would be getting the exposure they need and deserve. I'm sorry but without it? This record will fail....and worst of all, so will the tour.

The trend I see happening here is going to be a one and done. It's really quite a shame because this record is fantastic and the live shows are utterly fucking mind blowing.

Until this band hires somebody to get this music added everywhere, it's going nowhere. If this record were being pushed here the way Grace is in Australia, we'd be seeing an entirely different ballgame.

I've done my part. I bought the album off ITunes, bought three physical copies of it. Bought a hoodie and tee and went to see their show here. But as sad as it is to admit, Nick is right in some ways. This album needs proper promotion to be successful. This music doesn't stick when people hear it once or twice. It needs to grow on people. That's how almost all music today sells as much as it does, by making people hear it 10 times per day, every day.

The only other option I see for this band is to make sure they visit every single prominent radio station in every city they play in. All these cities that have these stations that the song goes for adds in. The whole band needs to walk into every single one of them, do an interview and maybe play a song. ALL these stations thrive and starve for artists to drop by in surprise and get on the air.

If this doesn't happen, I can see this entire tour and CD becoming an epic fail. The signs are already there that this is already in progress. Honest Man was a very good song that got picked up by how many stations out of almost a hundred? 12 or so?? Not going to cut it. This tour and record fail and I don't see them making another record. What an utter fucking shame that would be...

I agree with nearly all of your points, but I do disagree with the basis of your argument regarding record labels. In 2010 record labels don't have to be the answer to accomplish the things that you and I both agree need to happen for the album to be successful. I also doubt a major label in today's climate would have even been interested in signing the band.

In Live and Candlebox there are already two great cases for what a record label can do to hurt a band, and any smaller label that wouldn't infringe on the band's music likely wouldn't even be able to get the band the amount of promotion they have had thus far.

A band can accomplish all of the things that you outlined on their own these days, but it takes a whole lot of leg work and enough backing from other places. For an indie band, it also isn't primarily done through radio (though that helps). I don't think this is a lost cause yet, and I think you'll see more promotion for the upcoming tour dates.
