The drummer, who was the brother of the bassplayer, was quite good. Overall it was an impressive concert, Ed was in a really good mood, and as it was hot in the theater, his shirt was soon drenched in sweat, he opened it up for some songs and later buttoned it again.

It had been awhile since I had seen Ed (at that time still with Live) perform an older classic like I alone being performed made my eyes moist. Other "Live"-highlights for me: Heaven, The beauty of grey, They stood up for love and Lightning crashes. 'The distance' on the other hand does nothing for me and I could have done without that song and a better replacement.

From the new songs I liked besides the obvious "Grace", Fire on the mountain and especially Drive and Drink (everlasting love) best, Rome shouldn't be an encore imho, not one of the better songs.

The performance lasted almost 2 hours and it was sold out, great atmosphere, the band and Ed were really into it, shame, they didn't allow me to bring my camera, otherwise I would have put some songs on You Tube. I really liked this gig.

I'm listing the direct links at Lazyrocker.com for the review of the concert and the photo album.

In reading through the review, I would imagine that this quote will annoy those of you who don't seem to support Ed and have bad feelings about his previous relationship/breakup with the rest of Live, now The Gracious Few. It is a subject debated a lot recently and the opinion of the Lazyrocker reviewer:

"If you closed your eyes that night you were listening to the best of Live because the heart and soul of both that band and the new band is Ed Kowalczyk. It doesn’t matter who is playing behind him. He is the voice, no doubt about that!"

This is the entire, short review of the concert:

Ed Kowalczyk Still "Alive

Summer is almost over, so is the festival season. First indoor gig LazyRocker.com attended in September 2010 is ex-Live frontman Ed Kowalczyk's gig in a sold out Parkstad Limburg Theaters in Heerlen, The Netherlands.

Ed Kowalczyk has built an impressive résumé with his Live-bandmates that includes eight full-length albums, total CD sales exceeding 20 million (’94's “Throwing Copper” sold over eight million units to date), a huge international fan base and extensive touring all over the world. Live has been one of the most successful and enduring alternative rock bands of the 1990s and 2000s. After the break with Live the dynamic vocalist went on and recorded his first solo album called "Alive" which was released in June 2010.

As already said Kowalczyk has moved on to form a new band and take them into the studio to record a fabulous new solo album called “Alive”. This release continues where Live left off and presents that patented mix of 11 excellent catchy and impassioned rock tunes filled with the spiritual messages that Kowalczyk’s writing is known for. Compared to older Live albums this "Alive" is more melodic and polished, but it rocks anyway.

At exactly 21.30 hrs Eddie's band entered the stage of the 'Limburg Zaal' in the Parkstad Limburg Theaters in Heerlen to start the intro tune. When Ed Kowalczyk walked onto the stage the crowd of course went wild. Kowalczyk is not tall or big, but you have to keep looking at him because he's very charismatic. He really filled the stage with his presence. The intro launched into “Just In Time,” a tune off the new CD. In fact he played almost all tracks from "Alive". Highlights were the beautiful "Soul Whispers", the single "Grace", the with Chris Daughtry co-written "Drink (Everlasting Love)" and of course the great rockers "Stand" and "Drive".

The scorching set also included a healthy dose of his Live songs, including "All Over You", "Selling The Drama", "The Dolphin's Cry", "Heaven" (dedicated to all the mothers in the room), "Overcome" (with great drum work), "I Alone" and three majestic tracks to finish this great evening "They Stood Up For Love", “Lightning Crashes” and "Dance With You".

If you closed your eyes that night you were listening to the best of Live because the heart and soul of both that band and the new band is Ed Kowalczyk. It doesn’t matter who is playing behind him. He is the voice, no doubt about that!

It may sound weird, but at some moments on friday night i had that 'when you close your eyes'-moment. And no, that's not because I think "Ed's voice was Live and Live was Ed's voice", cuz that's just bullshit.
